Credit Card for New LLC? (by Baman [AL]) Posted on: Sep 28, 2026 10:34 AM Message:
Happy Fall everyone!
I just moved from a SP to a LLC for my SFH rentals. I can no longer use my personal Credit cards for my rentals. Man! i m going to miss that 2 percent back on all purchases. Has anyone found a card company or bank that allows LLC's to have a card for cash back earnings on purchases? --108.250.xxx.xx |

As ken says, what are you talking about? I use a personal credit card for my LLC. It helps keep all the LLCs expenses in one place. No one cares if the name on the card is yours or the LLCs name.

Each of my single-member LLCs has its own business checking account at the bank, but of the three cards I use for the biz, two of them are in my personal name, and one of them is in one LLC's name, but it's used for whatever LLC needs to shop at Lowes that day.
In an ideal world, it would be nice for each biz to have its own card in its own name, but the banking industry makes it obnoxiously difficult. As long as I can keep my personal spending and my biz spending isolated on their own cards, the name on the card has never mattered to anyone that I've dealt with. --137.118.xx.xxx |

American Express and Capital One, among many others, issue cash-back credit cards for small businesses. A personal guarantee from the business owner is usually required.
Regardless of whether purchases are made using a business card, with a bill paid by the business directly, or a personal card, for later reimbursement, it’s a good idea to keep receipts or other written records to substantiate that they’re legitimate business expenses and not taxable personal income.
If you’re concerned about piercing the corporate veil, ask a lawyer to explain the situation in your state. I’d imagine buying for an LLC with a personal credit card wouldn’t make much of a difference, provided there are good records and the LLC reimburses the expenses promptly, as even the largest companies routinely do for expenses their employees incur using personal cards.
That said, if the agreement for a personal credit card says it’s allowed to be used only for “personal, family, or household purposes,” a phrase that appears in many federal banking and financial laws, then it’s probably a good idea to choose a different card for business purchases. --76.81.xxx.xx |

I have an AMEX card that I use for business purchases. It is one tied to Lowes, but I use it anywhere. It has the LLC name on it as well as mine.
I have used the personal card for biz purchases. Maybe I am at the store and remembered I needed paper towels for the rehab. Sometimes I run the biz stuff thru separately, sometimes I lump it together, keep the receipt and expense out the biz stuff.
Nobody even looks at the cards nowadays.
My suggestion is to keep one for the rentals and another for your daily personal life. Easier to track that way as well. --47.227.xx.xxx |

DH couldn't not keep separate cards straight, and anyways sometimes bought stuff for both LLCs at once (tools and such.) So he uses one card, and I track his expenses per property/per unit.
So he has a personal card used for everything, and we have a Home Depot and a Lowes account. Oh and Amazon of course. Easy to open a biz account there and track purchases via POs. --173.18.xx.xxx |
