I think it was Ken who avoids the S8 conversation by saying "please have your caseworker call me"

Well that doesn't apply to the myriad of other rental assistance programs in tenant friendly areas that are often WORSE than S8.

They have caseworkers who will brazenly call you and judge you/turn you into Fair Housing should you show disinterest or attempt to screen out their ultra low performing clients.

I have one now that is trying to trick me into talking to them.

It's a renter who lets just say would be a total disaster and the current housing manager where they live now is trying to jettison them under "apt is too small" This renter is even in the newspaper openly talking about her children having behavioral issues and banging their heads but she is cast as a hero for being a "single mom" ™ with stb 4 under 6 yrs old. --72.0.xxx.xx

Mapleleaf- try this then if you dont like my first idea. Of course we accept section 8 tenants, give me your name and number and i will get back to you when we set a showing for multiple people.then when you get a showing for a good applicant tell the bums to come at that time, the bums feel like they got a chance and the good tenant feels the pressure of the bums in an auction atmosphere and doesnt realize they are bums. --98.98.xx.xx

In my rental criteria I have that I do not talk to third parties. This was a result of parents dumping their craopy kids on me, lesson learned. It it handy when social service providers leave a msg (remember all calls to vm). On the rare occasion I talk to a provider I say have your client call me, I cannot know who you are acting on behalf of, or that they have given you permission. I only deal w the primary prospect. You can bring anyone you want to look at an apt, but my interaction will be w you not them. --172.59.xxx.xxx

I feel your pain. I was turned in for not renting to someone without allowing them to even apply. In their eyes it was because they were in a wheelchair allegedly. I don't know - I never met them. They were not interested in even hearing that I had sold that 41-unit place back in 2021.

Nope, in their view, my name was on some list that some non-profit has given them of landlords that can help. It cost me a $2,500 retainer, because these lists go around and get issued from group to group.

My solution was to get a credit screening company that charges the tenant directly. I still get an occasional call from someone in that county - but that was due to good SEO before I sold it. You really can't pull data down from the internet afterwards --50.96.xx.xxx

It does appear to be impossible. --73.19.xxx.xx

I tell them "sure, I accept S8".

Set an appointment to show "Friday 8am". I've never had an S8 applicant show up at 8am. Then reject them as a "no show".
