Rental fraud is common where tenants are in never ending rent arrears trash out rental units or houses. Those with credit scores below the seven hundreds will need to keep looking. September in the province of Ontario major changes to the landlord and tenant act where 7 days from 14 days along tenants must pay 50 percent of the rent arrears into hearing before going into a hearing along with bad landlords and tenants will have a record so when a check is done it comes up. Wonderful news. Landlord got screwed over and didn't stand for it. I love hearing that this happened.
So many decide that they just got ripped off and leave it be. Make 'em remember what they did.
No way she stays in that long, but at least it happened and hopefully she doesn't get away with it again.
Best part was the Landlord saying that she will show up to any other hearings this professional deadbeat has.

This case is also a warning to "mom and pop" landlords to up your screening, I'll bet the LL relied on "gut feel" to decide this was a good tenant rather than actual screening. She ended up losing the house to foreclosure because of this.
The tenant forged documents using her fathers info and signatures. At the same time, there were some new Texas laws that really crack down on intentionally misleading landlords for gain. This was in response to fake paystubs, and everything else that has popped up over the last couple of years. They also address squatting head-on. Hopefully, you see more news stories like this coming out of Texas so it will send fear ripples through the corrupt professional tenants and give them pause in their illicit endeavors. --99.64.xx.xx |

I bought a house at a foreclosure auction that had a squatter. The windows were all papered over and he was coming back at night and parking around back.
I staked it out and we had a chat. He said he was under contract to buy the house but had no paperwork etc. I couldn't show him my paperwork because in Florida we wait 12 days after auction for the Clerk of Court to issue a Certificate of Title. I offered him $500 to be gone in a week and he accepted.
A week later he suddenly wanted $1500. Dreams of grandeur. So I waited for the Title, 3 day notice, then serve the sucker. 30 days later I watched the Sheriff throw the bum out. 30 days and $390 = I love Florida. --75.74.xx.xxx |

I should have just filed on my squatter when I got the place but the spouse talked me into giving them time.
It was a mess. They lived in the place with no water or electric. Finally moved out of the house and moved into a detached garage.

I have seen multiple news reports on YouTube about this couple in the past few years. The pattern sounded the same - first time or naive LL, "they seemed nice", no court records check, paid move in funds with a personal check which bounced, "I'll pay you next week"...
This jail story did not mention the man.
