Condos, bad foundations, flood zones, water, lead pipes in the city...places that are becoming WORTHLESS. Yikes.

These are residential homes, but that made me think of other stuff too. It CAN happen.

Do you know of places that had their heyday but are now worthless or even GONE?

For instance, what about the Poconos? Anyone remember that as a vacation destination? Now they say the old hotels are abandoned and crumbling.

The Salton Sea?

I'm betting parts of the Outer Banks - based on the price adjustments I'm seeing on "FOR SALE" places, and the vacation houses falling into the ocean down south - will fall off in favor over the next few years. it already has, but I'm seeing a sharper decline coming.

In California we have a real Homeless Problem. So a brilliant Politician came up with an excellent idea. Screw the Tax Payer! How? Simple,(1) order pre-made wooden tiny homes. (2) Ensure there will be "No Mold Growth", so we'd get at lease a few months service out of each home/product. (3) Have the wood, during construction, sprayed with Formaldehyde-- A chemical the repels mold! It's Also Toxic and will kill anyone who is exposed to constant contact.

But the preservation of the investment is worth a few thousand deaths. These homes could be made for $6,250 each. But the City was invoiced for $26,900 each. So the politician could pocket over $20,000 per home, making the city employee's around $700,000,000 (Seven Hundred Million).

Back when steel mills were king and people walked to work in coveralls, there were lots of small houses built so close to one another on the hillsides that no driveways could have ever been installed.

These places show up in places like New Castle and Sharon even today as $25,000 specials. They cash flow well, but will they ever appreciate to speak of?

The numbers look great on paper too - until you start to manage them. Upkeep and turn overs of the class D places will rot your tummy.

These places are not limited to just steel towns though. Coal towns have a similar story. Old company town just disappeared when the company left. Then there is the king of all Coal town stories Centrila. The town was closed down by the government when the coal seams caught fire under ground
