I am planning on putting a water softener in my personal house. Looking for suggestions for DIY brands, maybe something like Fleck 5600XT, or Flexx-HD, or Matrixx. For those who have done it or are plumbers, what are your recommendations? What is important upgrades? Any other suggestions or "I wish I had done this . . . "

AI is good for things like this. My last reno, I had it recommend well equipment where the main priority was reliability and longevity. It provided a complete system design, including sizing. --140.209.xxx.xx

I used to have a Kinetico. Had dual resin tanks so when it was regenerating you didn't get bad or salty water.

It was mechanical so no electricity to contend with.

When I moved I got whatever Lowes had at the time. I get stuck with regen cycles when we are using the water and it is a nuisance.

I wish I had gotten another Kinetico, might still if I ever get back to doing stuff on my house.

Not a DIY because you have to be a dealer to buy them. All the plumbing up front can be done by you tho.

Put a whole house filter in front of it and put a shut off directly in front of and behind the filter. That made my life a lot easier at the other house.

On a well at both places if that matters. I used charcoal filters back then to keep the sulfur smell at bay. Even when I had to dig a new well. --103.103.xx.xx
