Cape Coral fl discussing putting Ai flock-style cameras on garbage trucks to use when driving around to spot code violations on houses. Then issuing fines, etc. as a result. Let the games begin. Hope you enjoyed your 250th! --24.152.xxx.xx

Goodness. The trash truck at my condo complex has a camera. The condo association pays the extra penalty fee every month cause the recycling truck camera has on tape dumping the recycling dumpster where folks putting plastic bags of recycling! At one time I was on the board and along with the 'fine" was the video! Can you believe that! Wow! The rule was loose recycling. Can not be in a bag. And the residence could not be trained! So we just paid the fee. Put it in the budget. Totally a video of the dumpster dumping from the dumpster into the truck... clearly our dumpster. Clearly our residents breaking the rule. --172.59.xxx.xxx

The governor here just signed a contract to place them every three miles all over the state.

When are people going to have enough of this?

They are doing more than recording license plates.

Keep your old school vehicles and drive them. --73.19.xxx.xx

I believe I will fly a couple of large flags on the back of my truck and let their cameras see that instead of the plate or truck. --73.19.xxx.xx

When I started in RE in the early 1980's, the local city would pay $50 to the trash truck drivers to identify code violations. I got hit replacing a gas line without a permit on one of my first refurbs. It didn't take long before the voting landlords put a stop to that by bugging their city council members to death. In fact, the Building Safety manager (not local, hired from the NE US) that put it in place ended up having to resign or be fired over it. Sounds like round 2 is coming. --99.64.xx.xx

Well if the city is gathering that data, shouldn't we as investors be also entitled to that same info? If you are gathering up who the code breakers are, then we should be able to market to these same folks.

If we are viewed as problem solvers, while the city is making their money, it could be a win-win. I know if it just tall grass or something lame like trash that the truck refuses to pick up, those are easy to clear --50.96.xx.xxx

I worked with a guy whose wife worked at Area Plan in our county.

They would take road trips and document any non-permitted work they saw while driving.

He was not the favorite person at the plant while that was going on. They finally stopped it all, but it was perplexing while they did it. Guess she wanted the extra work so as not to get laid off? --47.227.xx.xxx

The councilman or whoever it was in this video stated the Ai could even scan properties to determine if dumpsters or construction debris piles are located on the property and trigger alerts. --24.152.xxx.xx

If you’re an investor in a city like this, and you’re doing any quantity of houses, it’s probably worth buying a location and having your dumpsters only at that location so you can transport all your garbage offsite as soon as possible. One city I worked in, we framed up a new doorway and painted it inside of a garage And went and installed it at a location in a matter of minutes, so it looked like it was always there. We weren’t outside working for several hours in view of the street. --24.152.xxx.xx

I have a local city that went so far as to have inspectors follow people from home depot to see where they were going and if there were permits on doors, --165.227.xxx.xx

The garbage company for Los Altos, CA in Silicon Valley has had cameras on their trucks for years. Complaint letters tend to be garbage-centric, noting the violations of the bin contents versus on homes (so far). --71.202.xxx.xxx
