Hello,

My 15 year old ECHO gas weed wacker doesn't start even with fresh tru-fuel. I put in a new spark plug, fuel filter, sprayed carburetor spray but still no luck and so decided to get a new one.

What would you recommend?

Gas or cordless and what brand.

It's for personal use for my home and not rental property.

Ryobi 40 volt, expand it series, the head has dual strings with bump feed. If you get the right one, it’s a beast. I have torn tendons in my shoulders so pulling a cord has been a no no for a few years now. The Ryobi does not disappoint! --47.185.xxx.x

My Ryobi 40V works great - even at rentals, too. Good battery life, and it takes attachments like an edger. Also, you can rotate the head for string edging.

I have Kobalt 80 volt trimmers, hedge shears, blower, and push mower. They run strong and have interchangeable batteries. I still own a couple of gas trimmers but haven't cranked one in at least three years.

Ryobi is homeowner grade. I have some Ryobi tools, and most do OK. If you are going to do more than your own yard, get better quality. Ego is a great brand. I have a mower and chainsaw Ego. Highly recommend. --74.222.xxx.xx

I use Dewalt battery tools.

The weed whacker does great, if I load the string correctly. I put a head on it that doesn't require bumping. When it works it is wonderful.

I have an edger as well. It does a good job against say a concrete walk or drive, nit so well with gravel.

I might still have my gas version somewhere, but I stopped using it because it was a pain. --185.246.xxx.xx

As I said, I have a black & decker which wasn't very powerful so I switched back to my gas trimmer, but after all the discussion here I decided to do some research and picked up an Ego cordless with smart IQ. I just used it and was very impressed with the power. And I had it on the lower power setting. Now I need to find a hedge trimmer! --23.28.x.xxx

I have a cordless EGO hedge trimmer. It works great. It’s not as powerful as electric but it’s more than enough for the task and the battery doesn’t run out while trimming. The only issue Ive had was my mistake. I didn’t oil the blade after trimming and the blades stuck together. I had to them apart and oil them. Worked fine after. Cordless is great as long as you understand it won't be as strong as gas. Might take me a minute longer, but I'm saving time on mixing has, etc. Hiring it out might save the most time lol.
