Had a new one yesterday...tenant has had a hard time paying on time. So I get a text last night that he is going to be paying his rent using using rent.app using their split pay feature. He says using this will enable him to get his rent paid ontime.
Has anyone heard of this? --207.113.xxx.xxx |

Do I need my landlord or building's permission to use Split Pay?
No. When using Split Pay through your resident portal, your landlord doesn't need to take any action or even know you're using the service. From their perspective, they're simply receiving a normal bank payment through their portal system. --172.59.xxx.xxx |

Is there a fee for using Split Pay?
Yes, there is a $9.99 + 1.5% monthly fee for using Split Pay. This fee is added to your first split payment of each month. --172.59.xxx.xxx |

Will this work with any resident portal?
Yes! Split Pay works with all resident portals that accept bank account (ACH/eCheck) payments. If your building's portal allows you to enter routing and account numbers as a payment method, you can use Split Pay. --172.59.xxx.xxx |

J: Because they are desperate and don't understand finances & how much more it will cost them.
I put it in the same category as payday advance loans and car title loans.
Targeting uneducated people who think this will help them catch up on their bills, while it actually digs the hole deeper.
Get ready for a vacancy. --72.218.xx.xxx |

I would ask them why they are choosing that as well.
Almost sounds like they are making a change to buy time.
If he has trouble making the timely payments check into a bi-weekly pay, or even weekly. As long as you aren't accepting checks in the mail that is.
There are plenty of payment methods that do not cost that much. My online payers use Innago, which is $2 per transaction. I still have one that pays via Venmo each month.
Find out why he is having trouble getting the rent in on time and work back from there for a solution.
Maybe this rent app is a good thing, but seems costly for the tenant to me. --47.227.xx.xxx |

I allow tenants to pay any time, any amount prior to the due date, when it must be paid in full. For free. --173.18.xx.xxx |
