Some times people ask about how much LVP / LVT costs installed.

I have 3 bedrooms 12x12 that have carpet and got two quotes for removing the carpet, installing LVP, and putting the 1/4 round in.

Let's call it 432 sq ft. Quote 1 was $3600 and quote 2 was $2500. Quote 2 people I have used before and went with them.

Basically just under $6 a sq ft installed.

Wow, that's a lot!

The last time I switched from carpet to LVP, I hired a couple young men from church to pull up the carpet and tack strips. I think it cost $120 total.

The last time we needed LVP installed, we hired another young man from church and paid him $20/hr. It took him four hours to install 200 square feet. We paid him $100 because he did such a great job.

I have 2 local guys who sub for stores. These guys were charging me about 1.40/sq' for installation only.

Bizstats dot com will give you the ratio of cost of goods a contractor has to his labor cost. Typically it is one-part materials two-parts labor for a generalist in the construction field.

I called my scrap guy, had him come over and remove all the flooring in an apartment that is 1050sf. Pulled carpet in two bedrooms, 14 steps, hallway, laundry (yuck) and the living room. Including all the tack strip. (a couple nails and stapes left behind) He also pulled up all the 1x1 square tiles in the dining, kitchen and bathroom. He bumped the price on me from the last time for odd reasons but I still paid him $150.

As to the install I do it myself so I don't have an exact quote for it.

I had a few vacant units that needed LVP or Laminate, and some occupied units. Normally I'd do them myself, but age and health said I no longer needed to tackle things myself.

So lets take an apartment property with 3 units needed new flooring. 2 Vacant and 1 occupied.

So i got estimates from various contractors, labor providers and handyman around town. All units were the same size but needed different kids of work.

An occupied unit needed the furniture moved, old carpet, padding and tack-strip removed. Old floor vacuumed and cleaned with TSP. Then the under layment and new flooring.

After the flooring, the wall base molding needed to be cut and nailed into place. It was pre-painted.

If I had 1 team do everything within a 10 hour work day, it was going to cost around $4.50 to $6 per square foot.

However if I had someone move the furniture, remove the carpet, pad and tack strip (For around $200),then the install price dropped to $2.75 to $3.50 per square foot. S savings of $1,500 - $200 = $1,300 in savings..

I'm buying "Home Depot LifeProof: with a generica label from a local Mexican store that sells HD returns.

He has lots of friends and relatives who want work.

He adds basic installation for $1/sf.

And I don't have to speak Spanish!

I love the Lifeproof stuff. I am looking at a large amount at auction right now, even tho I do not need any more.
