I’ve been chasing a house for about 2 years, on and off. Every 2-3 months. The lady was somewhat flexible, but her boyfriend/husband was 100% set on his price. About a year ago she apologized for a delayed response because she was in the hospital sick. Ok, no problem. Well I just found out today that she passed away. I’m wondering how long I wait until I write a letter? I think I should address it to her and play dumb on her passing, but I’m not sire how to handle this. I’m thinking wait about 2 weeks? How long would you wait and would you address the husband? --24.152.xxx.xx

Show up with a moderately priced sympathy flower from a local florist offering your condolences. Remind the husband how you two know each other.

Let him know that you are familiar with the probate process from dealing with a relative's passing. Offer to help him with the process if he needs it. He will ultimately view you as a resource. --136.61.xx.xxx

I say you show up at the wake.ok,maybe not.I would send a letter to her assuming she is on the deed and play dumb if he calls. --38.248.xx.xxx

Couple lived in a raggedy trailer at the property next to mine. I talked to the husband about buying the place. He was not too interested but listened.

They bought a new place and moved. He decided that he would keep the old one for when she passed on so he could move back. She has medical problems and is wheelchair bound. She got put in hospice. He was found dead at the dinner table.

I played dumb (easy choice) and sent a letter to them both, reminding them that I was interested in the property.

No response.

Then I see a truck pull in and someone using a tractor with a bush hog for the lawn. I go over. It is a nephew.

Bottom line is he is waiting for her to kick so he can usurp the property. They started scrapping everything on the property. He was coming around to mow but now it is back to high weeds. He gets her mail for her. So he told me they are not selling. She is back at the new house, maybe.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. --47.227.xx.xxx

I have a letter that reads, Thanks for providing me that lead a couple of years back on my rental down the street from your place. I am looking to buy a couple of other additional places not far from your home. I will pay you $500 for any additional successful leads in or around Meadville.

Now who is going to read this letter? The person handling the estate more than likely. So offer him/her $500 if he/she allows you to buy that home. If they say they can't accept it, offer to make a $500 donation to the deceased favorite charity. Let them also know that you had been talking to these folks periodically about housing in that zip ocde --173.188.xx.xx
