Other than a sharpie, how do you label your exterior multi family gas and electric meters (in the case where tenants pay for their own gas and electric)?
It has to be able to WEATHER the frozen northeast and hot summers as well.

Get fancy and have plastic tags made that then are attached to the meter with an exterior based adhesive.
I have three pits for water at one place. I rarely need to get into them. I used a sharpie to mark which was which. Middle was always easy. I thought I was golden and then they changed the meters out.
Now I just turn the water on, check which meter is spinning and get on with it.
These are duplexes so the electric meters are easy to decipher. --47.227.xx.xxx |

Sharpe Pro
Sharpie paint pen—best & what I use most often
All of them dry in a few minutes.

I marked the outside of each panel on a new install with vinyl stickers. These are similar to the vinyl used by sign makers.
As a precaution I also marked the inside of every panel also. I expect the vinyl to last a very long time. They are inexpensive to replace. I would guess every 7 years or so. I did this 3 years ago and they still look great. --162.204.xxx.xxx |

We call them junk yard markers. Oil based magic markers. Bright yellow or white. Lasts pretty much forever.
