Replacing a bathtub in a 4 bedroom rental. Looking for a 60" alcove tub that can stand up to tenants. Preferably under $1000. Recommendations? --23.234.xx.xx |

In my 20 years of student rentals, I've never had a bathtub fail and I think any name brand will do it. I suspect the installation has a bigger effect on the life of the tub than the tub itself --96.234.xx.xxx |

The tubs last, the coatings not always. In my experience the steel tubs chipped after a while. I only use good quality cast iron now. Any reputable brand should be fine. --162.204.xxx.xxx |

I was going to install a cast tub, but wrestling it around by myself was an injury waiting to happen.
I think it weighed in at 300 pounds.
Imagine trying to move that thru narrow doors and then fit it between two walls. I used a thick Delta in that one.
Last two I replaced I used American Standard. No complaints yet, although one was just put into service. --47.227.xx.xxx |

I've been very satisfied with the Kohler Sterling line of tubs, shower bases & wall systems. I've used them in my B & C units as well as for clients & currently have 2 of their shower bases & walls in my own house. We always set both the tubs & shower bases in either dense spray foam or mortar. On some tubs once the tub was set & secured in place we've used spray foam to coat the back sides of tub to help it retain heat. Back when I still used steel tubs we spray foamed the back side of those to help retain heat.
Before we set the wall panels we glue pieces of 3/4" plywood where ever we might want to install grab bars.
Where ever practical we also install floor drains in out bathroom floors. --96.237.xx.xx |
