I love to wonder around HF. Insider Club member. Buy lotsa stuff there.

But I'm finding I can find the same thing for less on Amazon.

I always wanted one of those telescoping ladders - takes up less storage space, etc. but I missed the sale price.

I checked Amazon and bought the same style telescoping ladder but the next stronger model, delivered, for the same price as HF's "Club" price on sale on the "less weight rated" model.

I have noticed the same on other items like tarps, pumps, car wax...

HF is nice in that I can just drive over and grab something I need. I still use Amazon more. --162.204.xxx.xxx

Off topic slightly.

I needed a garage door clicker and Lowes had 1 for $40. Decided to check Amazon. They had a two pack for $12. Delivered free. Same thing. The mark up on things is insane. --65.188.xxx.xx

Harbor Freight is very low quality tools, i only buy stuff there if it is likely to be lost or stolen or a 1 time use and not use again for a year --98.98.xx.xx

Same here Ken.

They are great though for exactly that. Sometimes something comes up that is uncommon.

Agree with Ken - when you hire street people for landscaping or cleaning or light repairs, HF tools are great since the street people are going to steal them to buy booze or drugs. No real loss when the tools walk off the job site. --172.216.xx.xx

I agree with you Brad; I've found amazon selling lots of rental items I use for a much better price - often delivered the next day. Thinks like door hinges, can lights, backlit led bathroom mirrors, door pulls for sliding closet doors, thresholds, sunglasses, charger cables, capacitors, dirt bike parts, pool chemicals, curtain rods, curtains, shower curtains, shower rods, cool single handle bath faucets, bath sink drains with built in screen basket and no rod protruding into the drain pipe, bathroom towel bars and tp holders, kitchen cabinet handles, 2" angle sash brushes, wall and ceiling registers,

Items I found weren't very good quality include: door knob kits, smoke detectors, gfci's, humidistats and lamp dimmer switches. I make it a point to return anything I'm unhappy with asap.

I just ordered a toilet flush handle on Amazon. Couldn't find one in the big box stores that wasn't some kind of clunky plastic adjustable junk. Found one with a brass lever made specifically for the side that was cheaper. Ordered in the evening, was delivered the next day! No wonder the box stores are struggling... --108.201.xxx.xxx

For one time use items, I don't mind Harbor Freight. I would buy a HF NNN property. But I wouldn't want to work under one of their jacks for example. Paint brushes however - absolutely.

It isn't cost effective to become a member for me --67.140.xx.xxx

Robin--that is exactly what I needed--a side flush handle. Only type HD had was a plastic one that you have to customize by bending the hell out of it. The original was a brass rod. --73.188.xx.xxx

BOTH. HF has upped their game GREATLY from when they were harbor freight salvage (where we shopped from a paper catalog and eagerly awaited the parcel delivery in 10 days or so). amazon is fantastic too for pricing and TIME savings for hardware, interior fittings like locks and hinges and such, truck parts or anything you don't need right now. lots of the tools i use regularly but not everyday are a coin toss...i'm still using a 1/2" HF hammer drill i bought 20 years ago. if i was a daily user it would have pooped out long ago but for my uses? it's fine. a block mason i know buys the HF medium size electric jack hammers and the warranty. he has replaced the same tool three times on a warranty. he beats the hell out of them and has an extra for the days his daily goes pffft. --172.56.xxx.xx

Any plumbing bought at big box stores is lower quality where identical water heater looks the same but weighs less. Professional contractors buy at plumbing wholesale as going back on job a week later is costly. --216.110.xxx.xxx

If want to buy professional grade power tools and fasteners then it is Hilti where does not sell to big box stores where directly to customer. From Experience found Makita power tools to last along with parts are not expensive. Contractors grade are more expensive where stand up to heavy day to day use where all the parts are made of steel. A DIY drill is designed to last 4 hours where a homeowner it last last but a contractor may have 4 hours in a day, few days or a week. In Canada Harbour Freight does not exist where a comparable store is Princess Auto where over the last few years the lower end power tools were discontinued. Some automotive sell a low grade parts that barely meet the OEM standards. Amazon sells a lot of electrical and power tools that do not even meet CSA or UL safety standards where some of gas generators have caught on fire. In the province of British Columbia or Quebec can buy cheap products that meet no safety standards. Where hold match to wire will burn. Take a welder where Lincoln Electric will always meet all the safety standards along with if only want to use for a limited amount of jobs can sell for minimum loss. While heavy the old fashion Transformer models last forever. --216.110.xxx.xxx
