My tenants evidently fry alot, and cook it seems without lids, as the wall behind the stove has food and grease spots.
The wall is presently painted. Degreaser and magic erasers help, but I was thinking of putting a protective shield on that portion of the wall.
Would peel and stick wallpaper be ok? There are sheets of metal that I could tack up as well.
Something inexpensive, washable and durable. Any ideas?

I have used a piece of stainless steel in the past. In my case I use granite but that’s not cheap. You best option is to buy a large porcelain tile and install it with 1/8” grout joints. Frame it with a nice moulding. This will last forever and be really inexpensive. I would guess around $50 in materials. --162.204.xxx.xxx |

That sounds nice, however, I think something very smooth would work best so food particles don't get caught in little spaces.
Just wish they would cover their pots!! --68.184.xx.xx |

We have a thin sheet of aluminum flashing tacked up at one place. Looks great and easy to clean! --173.18.xx.xxx |

You can get really large format porcelain tile now. Technically you can do the entire thing in one piece with no grout joints. That tile is a little more expensive though. I would do something larger like a a 24x24 tile. You would have almost no grout. I would do a dark tiny joint and use a sealer. It’s very easy to clean. --162.204.xxx.xxx |

Other ideas are good. Also, I have used laminate sheets (glued on) as backsplash & it looked & worked decent. It's smooth, easy to clean & durable. --68.115.xxx.xx |

At one place, I had one of those big smooth 4x8 wall panels meant for bathrooms. It worked very well. --172.59.xxx.xxx |

My last reno, I installed a stainless backsplash from Amazon. I've also used laminate sheets like DJ mentioned, which has held up well over the years. If budget/decor allows, tile is best--but that's a project. --165.85.xxx.xxx |

I have painted aluminum or stainless sheets behind a lot of the stoves.
When I reno now I put tile up with thin grout lines. Either bull nosed around the edge or I have a lot of thin transition pieces I can use. Seal the grout and walk away.
The only time I have had problems was from heavy smokers. Had to scrub the grout lines and re-seal them.
I have even used 4x4 tiles. Not the greatest look but better than greasy walls. I do this as a backsplash around the sink as well. No more painting and cutting in. One and done. --195.242.xxx.xxx |

Jo,
We use a pre-made, factory painted steel panel sold at Lowes. Easy to wash.
OR an easily replaceable panel of any smooth, durable material. Replace rather than clean.
