Pied-a-Terre Tax (by mapleaf18 [NY]) Posted on: Apr 20, 2026 6:07 PM Message:
STATE SPECIFIC-NY
If you think you've paid high enough property taxes in NY, think again. The "mayor" of NYC wants to institute a pied-a-terre tax on 2nd homes for snowbirds who spend time in NYC. How soon before this "bright idea" spreads to upstate and beyond (other than sane states such as FL, TX, AL, MS...

Yeah brilliant, let’s further tax those who already pay the most, the non-homestead owners who use the least services. Now they can sell and move elsewhere where they can be better valued.

They should just call it "politician tax". --73.19.xxx.xx |

Maybe once this is implemented they will go the step farther and allow the homeless to live there while the snowbirds are away.
Solves an additional problem.
I should run for office. --47.227.xx.xxx |

I'm guessing he wants THOSE kinds of people to move out so THOSE OTHER KINDS of people have voting control and such. --172.59.xxx.xxx |

It's both the mayor of NYC and the Governor of the State of New York that are discussing this and want to implement it.
She already told people "leave NYS and go to Florida (or wherever) if you don't like it here" and they did/are. She allegedly is trying to get them to come back... I don't think she fully understands that this is not how to do it. --47.231.xx.xxx |

At what point do they hit rock bottom. NY has already lost just short of $1 trillion in assets that have moved out of state over the last 3 years. --99.64.xx.xx |
