What is the best security camera to put at a vacant house?
Power is on but no internet.
Thanks

This has been hashed out about a dozen times in the last year.
I always wait for a new bit of info.
I have a Spypoint trail camera. It is cellular so only needs electricity, or you can use the battery pack. Sends pictures, no video, to my cell phone.
I pay $120 a year for unlimited pictures. They have a free plan that used to be 100 pics a month. They have other plans as well, depending on the number of pics you want. You can go monthly, which is a little more.
Others have talked about getting data sim cards and making a hotspot. I tried looking into that with my Verizon carrier but never got anything that was cheap enough to consider.
I have thought about asking neighbors if I could piggyback on their internet so I could use video as well. I figured I could say that I would have a camera that looked at their property which could help if there was a break in or something. I have yet to try that. --47.227.xx.xxx |

I have a SIMO hot spot (approx $6 a month) and Eufy "wall light" security cams. No subscription. --72.0.xxx.xx |

Simpli-Safe with motion sensors --72.218.xx.xxx |

Installing a commercial deadbolt along with commercial strike with 75mm 3" screws going into door jab where most residential doors it take 3 kicks to completely kick in the door. Also see if windows can be secured where windows at ground level are easy to break into. Bars along more secure latches make break in difficult. The objective of the thieves into get in fast then leave. Having motion sensor lights around the house will light up when anyone comes close to house. If there is balcony sliding door it takes a crow bar to gain entry. Copper plumbing theft is common. --216.110.xxx.xxx |

I have Simplisafe at three places but none of their cameras.
Would be interested in the SIMO hot spot as that is cheaper than anything I have found. Depending on the cost of the set-up to begin with. I did see where the 1g per month from them is a scam of sorts, but I have not verified any of this.
If I could do that I would gladly pay for it as it would be a cheaper alternative AND allow video without regular internet connection.
Map, can you share a little more info on what you have? --138.199.xx.xxx |

I have always just paid for the data from SIMO. It usually comes to $6 a month on my vacant units and that is with 2-3 Eufy wall light cams installed and a homebase 3.
I like the idea of alarms going off BEFORE someone enters the building. With simplisafe the alarm goes off upon entering. IMHO that's too late. I want something to scare them off when they step foot on the property.
The other night I caught an unknown person cutting across the very large back yard of our vacant/being rehabbed 4 plex around 11:25. The sirens went off and he hastened his step away from the property! --72.0.xxx.xx |

For a hot spot see if your library has them to borrow. Then get whatever wifi system fits your needs --172.59.xxx.xx |

You can get Simplisafe to alert before they are inside. For me that involves more false hits tho. But I have more four legged animals running amuck than the two legged versions.
Any chance you could share the exact model and plan that you use? $6/mo is tremendous and I want to test it out myself. I could drop the $29/mo Simplisafe on one place, add some cameras and still be secure. Then I could keep the Simplisafe on wifi only, which is a free plan again.

unless simpli has upped their game in the last 5 years they have been unimpressive in their alarm response times. i am on a rehab now and will be getting a skylink for 30 month to pair with eufy cams. also adding motion sensor lamps at all corners. considering a LOUD motion sensor screamer for interior. thank you maple for the SIMO tip... --67.63.xx.xxx |

Simplisafe has great response time, as far as contacting me when an alarm trips.
Getting used to the system allowed me to set off the alarm more than a few times. I always get a call if I take more than a few seconds to use the app and cancel.
The keypads have a red button on the top now. It is an emergency button. While trying to move the keypad I hit the button and got a call near instantly.
But I am curious about the skylink (starlink?) option. All I could find was $50/mo and I am not sure if you have to sign an extended contract.
Just got my latest apartment back and would like to be able to keep some video in there vs just the trail camera pics.
Thought about palming a little cash to another tenant for use of their wifi but not sure how that will go over. --47.227.xx.xxx |
