I used a shovel with a messed up handle and got glass splinters in my hand. I googled it and have tried 3M tape, Duck tape, and baby powder, and hair conditioner. They all helped some, but I just slathered some petroleum jelly on my hand and I think that feels best. Just messy.
It hurts! The dumb dog chewed it, can't imagine how that made his mouth feel. --216.126.xx.xx |

Dispose of that shovel at once. There is no need to re-enact the crime. --184.57.xxx.xxx |

Pat, makes sure you get all of the splinter pieces removed & disinfect the area. Many years ago I had a similar thing happen while using a hammer with a damaged fiberglass handle. Long story shortened, I incorrectly thought that I got every piece out & ended up with a serve infection, spent the night at the hospital & couldn't use my hand for several days. --96.237.xx.xx |

Thought I'd try some duck tape or electrical tape on the handle or will throw it away.
Steve, you have me worried now, cause I can still feel plenty of them in there.
When I held it up to the window, I could see lots of shiny little pieces of stuff on my hand. My daughter said to put baking soda on it, I might soak it in epson salts water. --216.126.xx.xx |

Alcohol. Either kind. Sleep it off. Or rubbing Alcohol should take care of the pain. Or maybe I don't know --172.59.xxx.xxx |

That might actually warrant a trip to the urgent care place, to be sure it's all out.
Steve's experience is valid --64.246.xxx.xxx |

I had a spot on my thumb that would ache now and again. Couldn't really see anything but something was there. I fought it for well over a year, maybe more.
Went to the doc and she wouldn't dig around in there because it had been in so long.
Ended up going to a surgeon and having him use live x-rays to dig it out. At first he thought it was a needle, like from drug use. After getting it out it was a piece of fiberglass from putting a roof on a shed a few years earlier.
Took a while to figure out what I had done.
Expensive mistake. Normally I pull the splinters out or use a knife to rake them out. Guess I missed that one.
Expensive lesson. --47.227.xx.xxx |

Still dealing with it today. Am going to try the vacuum. Probably going to Dr if it keeps getting on my nerves. --216.126.xx.xx |

I was able to remove a splinter that I had in the side of my foot for quite some time using a potato poultice. I saw naturopath Barbara O'Neill talking about a homeopathic remedy using a grated potato poultice to remove splinters. So I grated up some potato and held the shredded pieces in place by placing a small piece of cotton cloth over the potato shavings and winding Self Adherent Cohesive Bandage Wrap around the foot to secure. I then donned a large cotton sock over the wrapped foot to hold everything in place. I wore this shredded potato poultice wrap to bed for 3 nights, throwing away the old poultice and making a new one each night. After 3 nights the splinter was gone! I wonder if this treatment might help you. --98.236.xxx.xx |
