I'm going to be redo-ing an entire apt in July. I'm thinking of putting can lights in the bathroom and kitchen. I've never done this for an apt. I've only ever put can lights in over the tub/shower.
Any opinions of whether I should stick with regular domed lights or not? It's currenlty early 1980 style.
I personally have can lights in my personal place, and have never had an issue. But rentals are a diff beast. Don't know how they will hold up and how ppl generally treat them.
Its also a 1st floor. I'm worried about leaks from above

Run the wires in the general area where you want them. Don’t put cans, just put the slim fit lights with the wing clips. --174.249.xx.xxx |

Yea go with the LED style that NE mentioned. Imo, 6” cans make a place look dated, 4” are more stylish. I have them in a few of mine and they always get wows. --172.59.xxx.xxx |

Another vote for LED slim wafer lights,
with fastening clips / flush mount. --204.10.xxx.xx |

Well I guess I am dated. I put six inch cans in my house when I built. I now have LED inserts in a lot of them, with LED bulbs in the rest.
Personally I do not like putting LED fixtures in the rentals. When something goes out, and it will eventually, then you have to deal with it. Instead I put LED bulbs in all my standard fixtures.
As far as longevity with renters I can't see them tearing up a can light more than a surface mount light. If just a bulb in the can it would be actually easier on the tenant. Less chance of breaking something when changing the bulb.
I used 6" cans because they threw more light for me at the 8 foot level. All of mine are just straight down, none are angled.
The wife likes them because she hates the dated boob lights that we had in the other house.
I have LED fixtures in the stairwell of some of the apartments. I always take care of them because they are so high up. I bought the fixtures when they first started coming out around here. Expensive to say the least. I am now considering putting a can light or two in the stairwell as the fixtures die. That will make it easier to change out with just the light pole, if I can find it.
As far as worrying about leaks from above, the can light will not hold water like the boob light could. Had a roof leak and the dome filled halfway with water, which made everyone nervous about turning the light on. --47.227.xx.xxx |

I put 4" recessed lights in entry, kitchen, hallway, closets....sometimes in a finished garage. I stay away from flush mount lights that dont have a louvered baffle because they look too flat and bland.
I get all my can light stuff from Amazon, specifically their Sunco 12 Pack 4 Inch Recessed Lights, LED Baffle Trim, Selectable CCT 2700K/3000K/4000K/5000K/6000K Dimmable 10W, Canless with Junction Box. Check them out. --98.48.xx.xx |
