Here most houses built after the 1950 went with forced air where a lot of older houses had boilers. First a lot had oil fired boilers where later changed to natural gas boilers. If have a existing forced hot water boiler in about half day to day the boiler can be changed. Higher efficiency gas boilers have a forced draft which means combustion and combustion air goes directly through the wall. One advantage with a boiler is can buy a indirect hot water tank which is more efficient, last longer along with more hot water as the boiler has a higher output then direct fired gas hot water tank. A cast iron sectional hot water boiler is not as efficient as most use chimney along with only one heat exchanger. If the boiler was set up well with a Spirovent air and dirt separator problems are eliminated. With a boiler radiantors can buy non electric thermostatic valves where can set the temperature of each room where if not using a room then can turn down temperature. Insulationing all the heating and hot water pipes is not expensive where will bring energy savings as the heat is going to radiators. If want AC then can high efficiency split heat pumps which can used for heating and cooling where in extreme cold it is more cost effective to use boiler. --216.110.xxx.xxx
