Indiana's HB 1288 would abolish taxes on tangible property after Dec. 31, 2026, while also eliminating property taxes entirely in 2027.

The problem is that roads and other infrastructure will not be maintained where rapid deterioration. Later it will be really expense to repair road system, schools, government buildings. Also where is tax revenue going to come from. In Canada taxes are higher while at the same time there is universal medical care along with affordable prescription drugs where employers only may decide to provide limited health benefits. Most important for a industry strategy is good education as industry is becoming more and more automated. --216.110.xxx.xxx |

I read thru the proposal and I do not see how they will get it thru the way it is written.
There isn't enough money made from sales tax here to do all the funny stuff they want. Once the property tax is removed they will really be hurting for funds to do a lot of stuff that they deem necessary.
The only way I could see them even getting traction would be for the state sales tax to go up from the 7% that it is currently.
That being said I welcome the idea, as long as it is thought thru. A plan of action needs to be worked up first for there to even be a chance at it.
I am a small mom and pop operation but last time I calculated my property taxes (2 years ago?) I was paying almost $45 per day on property taxes. --47.227.xx.xxx |

Sales tax is a tax on consumption where property tax has no effect on consumption where consumption effects the economy where the more people buy the better the economy is. Once a city or state neglects major repairs and upgrades the roads, bridges, schools and other government will become unusable. Here I the progressive Conservative opposition is proposing tax cuts where tax cuts mean where the money going to come from. A rental building continuous repairs and renovations must be done where to keep the rental building energy efficient along many components have life expectancy where some do nothing where in the end was selling they take a loss. When selling the investor wants to know operating costs where the higher the net operating income the more the apartment is worth along easy to sell as investor takes over. I remember the time I took over a apartment building that was being hollowed by tenant with rent appeals. I applied for conditional order where they had 30 days then after the major repairs and renovations there were no rent appeals so one January five rental units became vacant where never heard a complaint about rent. The landlords who owned a four plex was increasing rent illegally where he moved back as could not make money. The first rent increase was 20.25 per cent where was able slowly bring the building back
I should have applied for a second conditional order as the socialist democratic elected government cancelled 14.75 per cent increase. --216.110.xxx.xxx |

I can't see this burden being shifted to the working class with kids. They may have to pay for their kid to go to school. Umm that's not gonna work. While no property tax sounds great. It seems like the greater harm would be to the community and maybe start with LOWERING property taxes. I agree with Zero...I don't think this is going to fly. --208.67.xxx.xx |

This is a simply a political move to make a few politicians "look good - working hard for the common man", fully knowing it won't happen. They probably had their shirt sleeves rolled up when they announced this.
But they can use this for years of re-wlection rhetoric "I was the guy who tried to repeal your taxes! Vote for me and I'll try again!"
Meanwhile, Indiana legislators have passed some idiotic, harmful laws against LLs.
