Fun with the car (by BRAD 20,000 [IN]) Posted on: Nov 16, 2025 11:08 PM
Message:

Many here have seen and ridden in the car. I love sharing it. Hope it helps build a DREAM for others.

Other drivers act differently around it.

On the interstate other cars actually ALLOW me to merge!

Or they cruise in my blind spot for a while, stay beside for a while, and hang toward the front for a while - so they can take pictures!

At a 4 way stop I get waved to go first (Indiana drivers are wavers).

Yesterday I was dropping Wifey at the door and realized a police officer was running my plate (under a business name). He tapped on my window and told me "Move along. Uber drivers must use the taxi/rideshare lane."

My 4 year old grandson lives in a home full of voice actuated gadgets (Alexa, TV remote...). Using my clicker I have convinced him Eleanor pops up and down in the hood when he calls her name.

Life's too short to drive boring cars!

What's your favorite ride?

BRAD

I split my time between a Mazda CX5 and an F150. I really like the CX5 which I just got a few months ago. It's fun to drive and fuel efficient. Perhaps the best driving car I've ever owned is a Lexus LS 400. That was an excellent highway vehicle and very durable as well. A car like that doesn't fit my current lifestyle however.

Nowadays, I actively avoid anything that calls attention to me as there's simply too much danger in that. I'm not jumping at shadows and operating from fear per se. I just see it as prudence for my circumstances and I prefer to simply be low key. --23.28.xx.xx

I will stick with the Silverado 1500 of the day.

I use it to carry stuff as well as a daily driver.

Second is whatever the wife has because she can drive me around.

Don't get me wrong, the Rolls is nice and I bet it is a smooth ride on the highway.

We just aren't there yet and as such we don't see it being a priority.

But then again, I can never find the umbrella in our cars. --71.46.xxx.xx

LOL! they really thought an Uber driver would be driving that?!

I'm happy for you - that it makes you happy.

Even if I had the means... it's not for me. More to maintain.

I can think of a lot of other places I'd rather put my money to use.

Although, I WOULD like a nicer Honda. My current 2013 Fit gets good gas mileage, but it's also a bit beat up - by others : (.

I do really like my 2004 Ford Ranger - from when they were still compact & simple. 4 cylinders, stick shift. Just enough to carry the few things I need to carry, without being a gas hog. I wouldn't mind a newer, similar one - but they don't make them like that any more. --72.218.xx.xxx

My last two full sized trucks have been four cylinder turbos.

Decent fuel mileage. Until I get close to a trailer. Still pulls what I need to but then the mileage drops down worse than a big V8.

I just don't like the 5'6" bed. To get a 6' bed around here you have to special order it and I never have the patience.

Heated steering wheel and seats plus a big display to watch as I back up to a trailer.

My phone syncs up to it easily.

My tenants make the lease payments. I never have tire, brake, mechanical or rust problems.

But it isn't as quiet inside or as smooth as the Rolls is. --71.46.xxx.xx

I literally could not fit any sort of luxury vehicle in my lifestyle and it's not something that I even desire--and I do like cars. I guess it's a bit like having a Rolex--I'm simply not going anyplace where that sort of adornment is necessary, so it just doesn't fit what my lifestyle and I've no use for it. I can't imagine the reaction from friends, tenants, neighbors and etc. if I rolled up in a luxury vehicle---all I'd probably have is problems that I don't need---lawsuits, envy, people plotting and etc. Naw--let me stay incognito. I have no problems being the quiet millionaire living next door that no one knows about.

Having said that, I have no problem and make no judgement about other folks having these things, it's just not for me.

Favorite vehicle was my 1950 ford 8N tractor. Relaxingly fun when bushhogging and cutting grass on several acres. Hook up the snow plow in the winter and have more fun on my driveway and the driveways of the few neighbors I had.

It also came with a two-bottom plow and a 6 foot disc for the garden, and a grader for gravel and sand.

But, since I'm retired and downsized, I'm letting the young man who purchased by former nice house and acreage have fun with it. --76.35.xxx.xx

Rick, I spent all my summers on one of those as a kid. Once I was big enough to stomp down the clutch by myself I was put on the cycle bar mower which was on the 8N and the rake on an old Ferguson 35 while dad ran the baler. I never found it relaxing but it did cause me to get serious in college so I didn't have to drive one of those the rest of my life when it's 110 in summer and -8 in winter. --209.205.xxx.xx

Goals are good, but I don’t think a car is motivating enough for some people. Consumer goods don’t always do the trick. For me I didn’t want to be employed. You want me to show up when? A great car does not have to replace the practical vehicles.

I still use my SUV/truck, utility trailer, dump trailer, Wifey's SUV...

just have some extra FUN vehicles like the Porsches, MGB...

You don't have to want a car. Some folks have boats, motorcycles, RVs because they enjoy them.

Stop and think - what DO I want? These material things are just a RESULT of building toward your DREAM. Time, family, support missionaries, save the planet, a cabin in the woods...

Set you your business and profit will grow in direct proportion to your DREAMS and GOALS.

Being overly comfortable where you are makes stagnation.

The tomato that stops growing, rots.

You'll look around in a few years and say "How did that happen - I guess I wasn't paying attention."

How deep is your tush imprint into your LaZboy?

Dissatisfaction and desire PROPEL you forward! Like the dandelion that grows in the tiniest of cracks, God made us to yearn for FREEDOM!!!

Find something that lights your fire, gets you up in the morning, keeps you awake at night thinking and planning.

I used to have goals and dreams and I was kicking butt meeting them.. But once Covid happened, I realize that no matter what you do, the entire world can flip upside down in an instant. I have barely found any deals in almost 6 years. So now I just don’t care anymore. My philosophy now is, watch for deals. If I find something that makes money, I do it. But as far as striving, I don’t know if that’s what we’re supposed to do as people. Does that fall in the same category as greed or positively covering? I don’t know. Maybe yes, maybe no. I kind of take the days as they come now. --174.249.xx.xx

When I say that, I don’t care anymore, I guess I should clarify that I don’t really care about obtaining material goals or a certain number of units or so much growth per year. What I care about is a full freezer and sustainability. The ability to protect my family when you all go crazy again, because it will happen. Some point in the future. But the scamDemic did present me with another business opportunity that I am doing OK with, so that is one positive. It goes hand-in-hand with real estate. And it falls back to the deal when you see it before you. If you find a If you find an opportunity, that makes sense, do it. But as far as material goals go, they just don’t really exist in my world. --174.249.xx.xx

Personally, I've never subscribed to a growth for growth's sake for myself mainly because there's a limit to what I want to deal with. You can't do that without capacity building and that translates to stress for me which is not something I'm trying to do at my age. I operate with the concept of "enough". That doesn't mean that I'm unambitious but anything that I do has to be an acceptable risk and not lead to undue stress. I don't feel like I'm under the gun to grow or else. If an acceptable opportunity presents itself then fine, but I'm not trying to shoehorn myself into anything.

I've come to define success as simply having enough to give me a reasonable degree of freedom. There are no elaborate desires or hobbies that require funding. I just don't desire a lot of material things. My kids will have a greater inheritance than I did, but my money is for my wife and I and they need to work hard like I did. --23.28.xx.xx
