No fridge? No more.
Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law on Monday requiring rental property owners to supply their tenants with a working refrigerator and stove.
Assembly Bill 628 will apply statewide when it takes effect next year. --47.151.xxx.xxx |

Nice thought, but rent can no longer "just go up" in CA (unless it's for a vacant unit). --47.151.xxx.xxx |

The fridge would be added at turnover, not right now. --24.152.xxx.xx |

For rent: $1400 with appliance provided, $1200 you provide your own. --24.152.xxx.xx |

Or I guess in California that would be: Efficiency apartment for rent $5,500 included appliances, $5,000 per month if you bring your own. --24.152.xxx.xx |

And every time an appliance gets broken by a tenant, drop it off at Gavin Newsoms front door.
Wouldn't that be unconstitutional?

In the hood the stove and fridge were standard. Most don't understand the difference between propane and nat gas appliances. Certianly didn't want the peeps working with the gas connection. Nor have them hauling the fridge up to the third floor. --198.168.xx.xxx |

Simple arithmetic 3 year life expectancy where 36 months where add that cost into rent per month for each appliance provided where in rentals withing 3 years most appliances are banged up where only good for scrap metal. Tenants want more no problem where they pay more rent. I only bought used appliances on facebook market place or kijiji.ca websites where paid around $150 CDN. dollars or less then expense out where using within 3 years again scrap metal. Some appliances lasted longer. Important with refrigerators every 3 to 6 months remove back cover than with air compressor and shop vac clean out all the coils where a fridge is a heat pump where clean coils the fridge compressor operates less then extending the life of fridge compressor. --216.110.xxx.xxx |

You clean all your fridges every three to six months?
That is amazing. I only clean mine during turnover, or when a part breaks and I am there anyhow. --47.248.xxx.xxx |

I have always included both anyway. With what rents are here it’s really not a large expense. If average rents go up mine will as well so it’s. Win as far as I’m concerned. --162.204.xxx.xxx |

What about the FREEDOM to use your own appliances?
You know we rent appliances so I know for a fact not everyone needs them - some already have their own or choose to pick one up from FB Marketplace.
I have family in CA. They love this stuff because it's all they know. They don't see the rest of the world getting along just fine, taking care of themselves, not tied up in wackiness, and make fun of our Midwestern "Fly over state" values.
They accept the high cost of living in CA as "normal".
