Hired a floor leveling company in Indiana. ha! floors never got level even after they tried to "fix" their shoddy work. I would like to lay down LVP but have been told it won't work on the floor due to it being so unlevel. The suggestion was carpet. ugh - Hate carpet. Any other suggestions of what to put down?

Go to the tile section buy self leveling floor leveler grout. Then you can put down underlayment sheets for lvp --174.229.xxx.xxx |

I just put down LAVP in one of my rentals after using a 4" grinder with a concrete grinding wheel and dust shroud hooked up to my shop vac. I had about 15 sq ft of high spots in a 400 sq ft room. A 6' level and some chalk worked well to mark out the high areas. Would have had to grind the whole surface to use leveling compound due to paint overspray on the concrete. Leveling compound needs a clean surface to bond properly. HD also rents a concrete grinding machine but my areas were not that big and it took 2 people to lift it. --173.49.xx.xx |

Lucy, what is the floor made of now? That will help determine what you can do to level it.
When you say level, you are talking about a lot of dips and rises, not that the floor leans to one side?
I have used floor level. Just mix it and pour it. Make sure you get the right stuff tho. Some is made for large fills and some is for feathering out smooth.
But you must have a sound substrate or it will simply crack and crumble.
Getting a quality LVP with a good backer will help as well. I have spanned some areas that I thought would sound echoed or would dip when I walked on it.
Everybody hates carpet, but it does hide a lot of sins.
Shoot me an email with the name of the company that did you wrong so I can avoid them as well. --47.248.xxx.xxx |

Zero, the subfloor is plywood. I had new joices put underneath. If you take a 2 x 4 and lay it on it, the 2 x 4 rocks like a rough rocking horse. It is pretty bad and I see why they say carpet. I think it may be too unlevel even for a leveling compound. --64.184.xx.xx |

Not seeing it but I would say you can still level it out with a nice mix of self leveler.
It's a shame that you got a company to come in and repair everything only to screw it up.
Does the floor bounce a lot? Walk into the middle and jump. If there is an excessive amount of give the floor fill will break anyhow. Is it a long span from wall to wall?
Also if you bought the 2x4 from Lowes it would rock and wobble on a perfectly flat floor.
Sorry, trying to add a little levity. --47.248.xxx.xxx |

Also you could put sheet vinyl down instead of LVP. You will still have all the floor problems but the sheet vinyl will stick.
Use a releasable glue.
I would try and smooth the floor out tho. Putting all the time and money into fixing it and then giving up at the end is never a fun thing. --47.248.xxx.xxx |

Ha ha, my DH REFUSES to use floor leveler. He says it erases the "character" in old houses. --64.246.xxx.xx |

We have one house like this... indoor outdoor carpet has lasted a long time. Another option may be the glue strip (was Allure) homedepot Life proof product. We've used newsppaer in those dips and it has lasted now going on 10 years without issue. --172.59.xxx.xxx |

It sounds like you had a major problem & major work done.
The first thing I would check is to see if the joists were installed properly. There are a few different ways to do it wrong.
For instance:
Pretty much all dimensional lumber has a bit of a crown. If they installed the joists crown up on some & crown down on others, it could have an effect. Especially if they used "cheaper", twisted lumber.
if they did not push the joists all up tightly against the subfloor (sounds like you did joists only?) that could cause a problem.
If they aren't properly secured & supported at the ends...
Then, depending on how severe it is (and how nice/high rent the house is), as an option to self-leveling stuff, you might fill the low side or dip with something solid, then add another thin layer of plywood on top.
"something solid" could be: I've seen shingles used, or wood - like progressively larger pieces of 1/4" luann. Again, depends on the severity. --72.218.xx.xxx |

Floor leveler is great for small areas but it sounds like you need enough that it would be like pouring a small slab.
I have used laminate across some pretty uneven floors but I at least make an effort to get them close. I have one property where everything tilts in a different direction but at least each area tilts in the same general direction. I would suggest vinyl as it is very flexible but I personally would glue it together with a floor that uneven. --162.204.xxx.xxx |

Paint the floor that retains the character, lol. Sheet vinyl is a good suggestion. If using floor leveling mortar toy can prime the surface w their coordinating product. Henry is the brand I'm familiar with. If the floor sag a whole lot then it will wind up being much heavier if you are trying to erase an inch or more dip. --172.59.xxx.xx |

It has been a while since I used the self-leveling mix, but it wasn't at all cheap. From what I recalled it was four or five times more expensive than concrete.
Your floor does sound very rough. I have to ponder how much you can actually raise if you elect to do a repour. Then again, if you are doing this to an entire house self-leveling might be cost prohibitive.
Circling back you said you had some joist replaced. Does your existing joist system have enough strength to hold tons of concrete/self-leveler? --67.140.xx.xxx |
