Well, this is going to be fun! Caught in a live trap at my house last night. I need to go release him somewhere today.

I have one that comes by every night, they won’t bother you But since you caught it without using a skunk trap, good luck. --143.105.x.xx |

yeah what Ken said... move slowly, talk calmly to it and bring a large towel or blanket, etc and just gently put it over the cage.
As long as it's an older (adult) one, you most likely won't get sprayed as long as you aren't aggressive to it. The younger ones will spray regardless.
They have signs they give... pounding their front paws on the ground, etc
Just watch for those signs... (maybe google it so you are more prepared for the signs). --67.253.xxx.xxx |

That should be interesting. That might be one I wouldn't try to pet. I would talk to it though. --73.19.xxx.xx |

I don’t subscribe to the animal rights crowd. That’s right up there with feminism, globalists and Covid clowns. I don’t abuse animals, but we’re instructed to control them. --24.152.xxx.xx |

If you really need to move it, take it in an open trailer - easier to air out --72.218.xx.xxx |

I knew a couple that had two pet skunks.
Nice enough animals. Scent glands(?) were removed.
Now out in the wild I stay away unless I can't.
I remember when there was one camping in the outhouse by my grandparent's pond. I wanted to leave the door open and watch for it to leave. Instead it was dispatched inside the outhouse. We thought that place smelled bad before. --47.248.xxx.xxx |

I wasn't all that far from you yesterday NE - Wellsboro area.
I think I would shoot it in the cage. I am sure it will spray after it is shot, at least not directly at you --67.140.xx.xxx |

I haven’t been through Wellsboro in a long time. We were going to take a trip out to Benezette to watch the elk this fall and that would’ve taken us through Wellsboro. That area makes my small town look like a big city. --24.152.xxx.xx |

Skunk are docile .... and they LIKE closed/tight places. cover the trap with a blank and open the door. He'll walk out. --198.168.xx.xxx |

I wouldn't put him in a car/truck. He'll probably FREAK and spray. --198.168.xx.xxx |

When I was in student housing years ago there were several cute little skunk families roaming around the complex. Mamas, Daddies, baby skunks. They were quite easy to live with and bothered no one. Hundreds of people peacefully co-existing with several little skunk families in a predominantly urban area. If you opened the front door in the morning and the family was on your front step, you either stepped carefully around them or left out of the back door. I did not hear of anyone getting sprayed while I was there. They can be useful because they eat bugs and mice.
This was university housing. Their trash collection policy was to leave bagged trash on the front stoop on collection days. That probably kept the little skunk families around. I don’t know if they have changed their policy over the years.
I am glad you released the cutie pie.

Yes, we released him without issue. If it was trapping season, he’d be skinned and tanned. --24.152.xxx.xx |
