I am on a roll. 2 good books in the same week.
In a post earlier this week I mentioned enjoying the book "Simple path to Wealth". It was a focused look on what to do to succeed in the stock market. His advice was avoid the noise, buy an indexed total market mutual fund and let it ride. There was other practical advice but the nuts and bolts was keep it simple. I thought it was a great book for a young person.
The Psychology of Money: Timeless lessons on wealth, greed, and happiness Paperback – September 8, 2020 by Morgan Housel is a broad picture book.
Why do we think about money the way we do? He says it has a lot to do with our experiences and our growing up. A depression age person has a different take on life than a millennial and the way the brain works is that you use your experiences to fill in your perception of the world. Lots of questions to ask yourself, what is rich vs wealthy, what are you trying to accomplish? Is it greed or is it freedom? What does money actually do for you - it buys you time to do what you want to do.
It is a short book. You can read it in a day. There are 20 chapters, some as short as 2 pages. This is not a knock on the book. He keeps it short and relevant. I had authors that spend 300 pages telling you something that could have been said in 3.
This is a broader look at money and wealth and I enjoyed it even more that the Simple path to Wealth.
Highly recommend you give it a read.
I have no financial interest in this book, do not know the author, etc etc.
