Do you ask prospective tenant about unregistered guns? Registered for that matter. Do you allow? If allowed, do you record the info? Type, serial #, verify registration/match name; how many guns... if you're in a big hunting state (I am) and its typical hunting rifles that's one thing, but if they have like glocks 9 mm, aks, grenade launchers, howitzers etc. I won't allow off street parking for the howitzer lol. No joke. Im serious about everything besides tanks and grenade launchers (its possible!) Thanks --172.58.xxx.xxx

Having had hundreds of tenants over 48 years of being an owner of income property, also being a Jeweler who carried for years a weapon for protection, I walk the fine line between needing a gun for protection and seeing crazy drunk/drug user/abuser tenants go off the deep end and attempt murder. So your Questions are VALID!

What the City of Los Angeles AND the State of California required was a Million Dollar Bond to cover their liability issuing me a CCW gun permit. Without a million dollar bond, they would cancel or not renew my license.

So I applied that "tactic" towards my tenants. This is what happened:

Most gun owning tenants also had dangerous breads of dogs as their family pet. They would also have a young child that their dog could kill within seconds. So they are not the brightest of people.

I'd ask for a valid long term Renters Insurance Policy that covered their dangerous dog. Half had no Renters Policy and the other half had NO COVERAGE for damages caused by their dog.

These same "challenged" Group had no financial reserve, and were almost maxed out on their credit cards.

When a tenant allowed a "guest" to park in the property parking lot, that guest's son went to get their parents car, with their pit-bull on no lease. There is a lease law in Los Angeles. That pit-bull attacked another tenants small dog on a lease and killed it, then turned on another tenants cat. Also killing it. A 70 year old male tenant tried to save his cat and was also attacked.

So my tenant that allowed a guest with a bit-bull said she had no money. (A private investigator found she owned her mothers house and her daughters house, valued over a million dollars. The guest and son where here illegally, from Mexico, without a pot to piss in.

My other tenant with the dead dog and cat, and personal injury had to pay out of pocket -- later suing me for re-payment, and won in small claims court.

So now when a tenant with no financial reserves and no Renters Insurance Policy that covers a "Gun" or "Dangerous" pet-- Will either be "EVICTED", or have their Gun and Dog disarmed. --47.155.xx.xxx

Los Angeles is a Sanctuary City, close to the boarder. Our A-Hole Mayor likes to "Play" the State and Feds by accepting "handouts" via Food, Housing and other necessary basic needs of those in need.

Section 8, She gets 25% extra funds per contact to do as her pleases.

Food Stamps, allows the conversion from basic needs to Cigarettes, Alcohol, Drugs and more.

To allow just about anyone to carry a gun would lead to unnecessary fatalities. --47.155.xx.xxx

Down here asking "are your guns registered?" is akin to saying "are those children really YOURS?"

It's not a polite thing to ask.

Responsible people with guns usually do not talk about their guns, unless they also do things like competitive shooting/the kind of shooting that requires math and taking into account the curvature of the earth.

People who have guns who aren't allowed to have guns are also not likely to be truthful because under certain circumstances, possession of a firearm is going to send them back to prison. But those people get screened out on other issues in their lives.

The one tenant who I know who bragged about his firearms (he was an animal control officer) and freely showed them off to let people admire them--- ended up getting targeted for theft of his firearms. A kid's mom died of an overdose, and her kid wanted to steal a firearm and get revenge. He was found passed out in an alley near his destination before he could finish his revenge. The only reason why he actually made it out of the house alive with the stolen firearm was because the tenant was new to the house and didn't have enough familiarity with the layout to discharge his bedside weapon. But he kept his (unlocked) gun safe in the hall right outside his bedroom door. All three of us were fortunate it played out the way it did---- but it never would have involved us if the tenant had just kept his mouth shut about his collection. I expected him to be stable, but he didn't last six months with me before it was time to go...

Random cool fact, if you want to play tank, there's a place near San Antonio that lets you drive and shoot a tank.
