State Specific Question About: CALIFORNIA (CA)

Single detached family home rented to a Hispanic family. We just noticed that the tenant let his extended family members to use the back yard to prep food for street vending. They put two freezers and one fridge outside in the backyard against the exterior wall along with shelfs and racks. They prep food in a table in the yard and use potable stove to cook stuffs. The tenant claimed that this extended family members have permits to do street vending etc. We feel that this is a misuse of space (residential for commercial use), and concern a lot about fire safety because appliances are used outside (with power plugs etc. hanging without protection from water etc.). What should we do?

This is a generally good tenant. The interior of the house is maintained very well. However, his extended family members keep using the house now and then (living with them, vending food prep, etc.).

Please advise. Thank you! --108.80.xx.xxx

What did you expect?

Health department should fix that!Call them.

I'll also bet that they don't think they should pay extra for all the extra family. Or the fact they're using your place as a business.

They could care less about you, our country or your/our countries stinkin' rules.

In the future, once you get rid of them all, remember this. Their way of living is not the same as yours.

Not to mention which, are you interested in eating the things they are serving the public? Think this stuff is clean and meets local health requirements?

Not to mention this but are there many cats and dogs missing in the area?

What kind of meat is that in the burrito? Good meat they will say.

I prefer to be able to identify what I'm eating - steak, chicken, etc. Shredded and ground meat always makes me wonder. --97.85.x.xx

It should be in your lease that no businesses can be run from the property. If it isn't there, modify your lease for next time and for renewal.

I hope you are not paying any of the utilities, because they are using a lot of power and water.

It's hard to imagine any landlord allowing this activity. --76.178.xxx.xxx
