How effective have you found burning weeds to be when compared to ground clear or glyphosphate?

Hard to burn them when they are alive and growing.

I will burn off areas that have dried out, but to get rid of actual growing stuff I mix some glysophate with liquid soap, and some ground clear.

For me I think the glysophate kills fast but doesn't stop re-growth. So I mix in the other as well.

Might be better to glysophate and then a few days or a week later do the ground clear?

I know I have a couple gravel drives I need to hit this year. --107.147.xx.xx

I am inclined to believe it is more about the setting you are in. In suburban and city locations, burning is frowned upon period. If you are out in the sticks, you could burn off the stuff you have already grown-up knee high instead of brush hogging it.

Green grass and weeds can burn, just not that well - which is a good thing....do you really want huge wildfires?

I try and prevent things from getting that out of hand. Place I just moved into last year has a few acres of trees and poison ivy. I have been going through lots of that spray knocking it back. --174.131.xxx.xxx

On between brick and concrete I've had luck with salt and weed killer. Where are these weeds? --172.59.xxx.xxx

The blow-torchy sort of weed burner that attaches to a propane bottle used to work quite well. Once the feds made propane bottles have a safety valves and lower pressure, the weed burners stopped working. Dribbling out fire doesn't work as well as a flame thrower.

If the folks who make those have figured out how to make them work with the safety valves, then they work. It takes longer than spraying because you must hit each weed long enough for it to wilt. After you wilt it, it will continue to go ahead and die. --76.178.xxx.xxx

Good alternative to spraying chemicals, but they have to be pretty small or it will take forever.

Very very very good info. First I stopped using ground clear because I felt it did NOT stop anything from coming back I switched to glyphosphate was unaware that ground clear is supposed to keep killing longer. Also for burning the goal was the eradicate weeds permanently which it sounds like will not happen. --66.29.xxx.xxx

My friend had one years ago that attached to a large propane bottle meant for a gas grill that is what I would use. --66.29.xxx.xxx

I have a torch set up like that.

It works well enough I guess. Best for starting fires of stacks of stuff or melting ice off a roof so you can climb it.

I used it for some random weed kills maybe last year. Obviously it kills everything close to it. Big spot of dead. Then the weed came back before the grass did.

Hit some areas in the gravel drive and made black marks that looked worse than the weeds.

Be careful with them. Easy to get spun around and then the fire is close to the hose and the tank. Not a good time. --107.147.xx.xx

aaOregon--yes, the point is to get the heat from the torch to make the water in the weed boil, which will kill it root and all-----not to completerly incinerate the entire weed with the flame. --73.188.xx.xxx
