Interesting that you mentioned not having air-conditioning. I’m sure there are other factors as well. But the heat this summer I have found to be extremely hot. I was up on my roof yesterday before 10 AM and I could barely touch my shingles they were scorching already.
Can’t hardly do anything outside. --24.152.xxx.xx |

I grew up with no AC in the house. I remember the first car my parents got that had AC in it.
Finally have the wife accustomed to only having the AC in our house set to 72.
It amazes me how much we have grown to depend on things like this. --107.147.xx.xx |

I don’t run AC in my cars when I’m by myself and my house is 72/73. I think in an out of AC all days makes the hot feel hotter. --24.152.xxx.xx |

I also do not run the AC in my truck until the end of the day.
Well unless I am taking the day off from working. Then there is no reason for me to sweat like a pig and make others deal with it.
Back when I was working in a hot factory they had the breakroom set at I think 50. I just didn't want to go in there. It killed you when you came back out. --107.147.xx.xx |

Zero you are in IN (north of me) and NE is in PA. I grew up in MA and ME and no AC there either.
I lived in Florida for 8 years with no AC in my 1950's cottage and none of my cars ever had it either.
I worked as a forklift operator in a warehouse with no AC in a long-pants uniform. It was hot and I sweated but I didn't die.
When we lived in VA we didn't run AC. We had it but were too cheap to run it. When we moved to NC we didn't run AC the first several years. We have ceiling fans everywhere but we didn't use to run AC unless we have visitors.
I don't know what's changed. Not the temps - it was often in the 90's back then too. Not often 100's but sometimes. I don't know what's changed. --173.28.xx.xxx |

Ken, do you get those monthly "shaming" letters from your local utility admonishing you to keep your AC at 78 or above in summmer and tstat 68 or below in winter? Same letter also lets you know that you use more energy than your neighbors so shame on you! --64.246.xxx.xx |

Asphalt roof is like a asphalt driveway where a landfill product. In 2005 installed a steel roof along with ridge vent on top along with removing the moldy fiber glass insulation where spray foaming along installing rafter vents then put thin plywood so rafters where heat will rise from soft vents to ridge vent. The one layer of shingles is still there where one by two wood strapping then steel roof panels bolted on. July the outside temperature reached 35 degrees Celsius where that is like what you see like Costa Rica. Before with the shingle roof could not sleep in bedroom where now at night is cools down. With a steel roof can have pick a light colour where heat will be absorbed like darker colours. If house was well insulated then would not need a cooling or heating system. Where upgrading roof and walls where if installed solid board insulation on exterior walls than stucco or steel siding there would be no transfer in walls along with triple plated windows with low E. There is net zero housing here where solar panels which does not need to connected to grid. So you have bucket with a hole in it where will always need a heating and cooling system. Once no heat transfer than no heating or cooling system is required. The house next door has Ac and shingle roof where a lot houses on this street have Ac and shingle roofs. Before spray foam when it dropped to 10 degrees had to use high efficiency gas furnace where some nights it was close to freezing where did not use furnace at all. When I was in Germany they adding insulation on exterior walls then stucco where it was rare to see a brick building. In Germany they do not use Ac as the cost of electricity is really high along houses use block or poured concrete walls where even in the bedrooms the walls are concrete. Now in house with thermal camera see the difference where will start to break out walls then spray foam. In the kitchen before spray foam the drain pipes froze during the winter where now that does not happen. Eu countries do not use shingle roofs or fiber glass insulation. --216.110.xxx.xxx |

I grew up without AC as well. I remember as a young teenager when we got a window AC unit. I rolled my sleeping bag out in the living room where the AC was, I thought I was in Heaven.
Now I don't even go to that part of the country during the summer because of the humidity. Hot I can stand, hot and drippy not so much. --209.205.xxx.xx |

Didn't have it growing up. At some point, we had 2 window units downstairs so everyone slept there in the super hot. Most of the time the AC is not on in my vehicle. It has to be pretty bad for me to kick it on or I have to be heading into work and it is really bad. --73.230.xxx.xx |
