Has anyone ever been given a resume from an applicant? Does anyone in the group ask for a resume?

Looking through one of my vetting sites, I came across a resume from a former tenant. As I read it I realized it would have been helpful to have it with the application.

I'm going to start asking for resumes for a wider picture of who the prospect or applicant(s) are in terms of motivation and skill set in case they lose their job. I've been fortunate that 3 different tenants were able to find employment quickly after losing their jobs and I never knew until it came up in conversation much later in the tenancy.

Would you ask for a resume? Too much of an ask? --75.11.xx.xx

I seriously doubt that any of my tenants keep a resume updated, if they ever had one at all, and I have ahad a lot of professionals as tenants --76.178.xxx.xxx

Resumes are old skool. You have to apply online and while they might allow an upload of a resume, most don't require one anymore (depending on position.) Handling paper is too time consuming. --173.28.xx.xxx

I had a brilliant lady, in her late 20's, provide me with her resume because she came from another State and was unemployed. Came to California to seek a career in aerospace. Long story short, she had a double masters degree, recently divorced, no children and seeking a better life in the shining State.

With an almost perfect credit score, money from the sale of her home and a retirement account, six figures, I rented her an apartment. Now 17 years later, she's earning over 200K in a part time job and has a small business of her own too. --47.155.xx.xxx

Robt J: Don't you love when something like that happens?

WMH: Tech flies in time. It has been ten years since I've seen a resume on paper from a prospect who was impressively prepared. It is old school. It just seems like yesterday.

RB: Yes indeed!

Oregon: Good point --75.11.xx.xx

Oreo,

I like your thinking!

I'm chewing on how we might incorporate that idea and what benefit we would see.

My first response is - we only approve 1 out of 50 applications, 3-4 get a very marginal approval, all based on rental history, criminal & court background, etc.

Very few of our folks are "resume types".

I COULD see adding work history to an app, like rental history - can they hold a job?

BRAD: Work history is a tell. Those with a path vs. job hoppers. Are they apartment hoppers too? Are they entitled quitters when asked to do what they feel is beneath them or committed to do what it takes to complete the job. --75.11.xx.xx
