Got a message last evening about oven not working after power outage, I figured board must be fried from surge? She said light came on stove but no heat in top coils or oven. So my daughter said sounds like it was getting 110? She went to ECPI computer school years ago.

Sure enough, breaker not installed exactly correct, DH says, maybe part was kicked?? IDK I didn't go.

People are so stupid, I told her what time he'd be there and everything, they were gone and teenage son in back bedroom, wouldn't come to the door. You'd think they'd want to be sure you could fix it??? He took a key if needed but that is just wrong, they don't care. --216.126.xx.xxx

Don't be too hard on your tenants and others when it comes to an electric oven/range. Some are Three wire, others are Four wire and even some are Five Wires.

I gave a friends a contractor to do his condo remodel. This contractor has an in-house electrician, who wired in new built-in oven/range and it was only getting 120 volts not 240 volts--the burners weren't getting hot enough to cook.

So the Contractors in-house electrician couldn't figure it out. The owners maintenance guy for the building also didn't have a clue.

The Realtor/manager had her guy take a look at it and failed. I mean this all must be dummies!

So I told the owner what to do and what to tell everyone, but they all failed--not knowing how to listen to act on new information. You'd think one of them would know how to use a Voltage multi-meter, But I guess not.

The wiring for the main breaker and sub breaker were of a strange stupid code set out by the City. They wires from the sub-panel were also miss guided. And the appliance what it's won set of rules.

So if you're not fast on your feet and can't decode simple wiring, then your cooked. I asked the owner if he'd pay for my gas over there. He refused. I said if I wanted to get a commission for the job, my commission would only be $10,000 and I'm asking for less than $100 to fix it.

So I drove there on a Sunday morning before the new tenant moved in. The locks were changed so no one could get in. As a locksmith, it took me around 3 minutes.

Sure enough the Sub-Panel Breaker was wired wrong. Also, the conduit from the sub-panel to the oven/burners were reversed - People don't understand Ground and Neutral. And thee Oven was designed to be wired with Three or 4 Wires....

SO after 15 minutes it was working perfectly. Something that 4 experts couldn't solve. They believed the color code on the wires was right, and they were not. --47.155.xx.xxx

Common problem is lower element is open where inspect for cracks. With ohmenter can check for continuity.

Turn on broil function then upper element will become red hot then 240 Vac is going to control board. Another common problem is terminal board which is easy to replace. Make sure power is off to avoid injury. --69.79.xxx.xxx

I have never heard of a five-wire range. What are these five wires? I know of two hot legs, a neutral and a ground on four wire versions. On three wire versions the ground and the neutral are shared wires --67.140.xx.xx

I think Robert, the "Licensed electrician" may be testing our electrical knowledge. Surely he knows that each and every RESIDENTIAL range is 208/240 vac and can be wired EITHER as three or four wire with the only determining factor being the year the residence was built. The NEC didn't change over to the four wire requirement until 1996, which separated the grounded and grounding conductors. Each and every range/dryer is factory wired to accept either connection but a 5 wire RESIDENTIAL range? Yea ok. Nobody here is talking about a commercial range but thata boy for trying to sound educated on the subject. --140.209.xxx.xx

We run into "kid in the room" all the time. We are vendors for a state program that supplies heating equipment and AC units for "free" for "low income" "disabled." Maybe 20% are actually in need. The rest are scammers. We walk into these places, hoarding galore, no housekeeping, kid in the bedroom playing games, adults no where in sight to sign the paperwork. --64.246.xxx.xx
