My own refrigerator has digital controls, as many of the new ones do. By trial and error, it was discovered that when the fridge stops working, all that is needed is to unplug it, plug it back in, and it will work again. It's the same old "Close the windows, open the windows" that has been the cure for computer problems for decades.
Before the fridge starts to feel cold, I will get water down with my ice through the ice dispenser and that is the first announcement that the fridge computer is off. Lights still work and it stays cold for quite a while before it is obvious that the fridge is not working.
So, it is the first thing to try when a fridge stops, before you call the repairman. Just like checking for a dirty air filter is the first step before calling the repairman for heat or AC. --76.178.xxx.xxx |

I fixed ours permanently by doing this. Do a google search by entering the model number of your fridge and type in your symptoms. You will likely find that the main control board is the cause of your problems.
You can have an appliance repair outfit replace the board for about $500, or you can buy a board on ebay for a lot less (under $50 used or about $300 new). I paid $40 for a used board that was guaranteed or return for a full refund. I then find a youtube video showing how to replace it.
Replacing the board on many of these newer refrigerators isn't difficult, but you have to pull the fridge away from the wall as the boards install on the back panel. It took about 15 minutes to replace and my fridge problems were gone. --73.2.xx.xx |

Don't buy fancy appliances. I like simple and old school. Last a lot longer with a lot less trouble. I don't understand why you need a computer on a refrigerator anyway? All you need it to do is keep things cold which can be done with simple thermostats. Why do people buy these things? --73.19.xxx.xx |

ANything with a circuit board, programming, "smart phone linked" I avoid like the plague. Heck I even avoid stoves with electronic ignitors; I buy old units with standing pilot lights. --73.188.xx.xx |

6x6--Do you know what manufacturers call the old fashioned simple white fridges without any computers, ice dispensers, water spigots, etc.? "garage fridges" As in, it would be an embarrassment to have them in your kitchen. Oh, and don't forget to spend $10 a month on filters for the cold water dispenser filter. --73.188.xx.xx |

The new units use a lot less electricity than the old ones did. I mean a LOT less in some cases.
Getting a wonky board is the price you pay to save some electricity and feel better about saving the world.
Our washing machine is on it's second board. Usually have to run an extra spin and rinse cycle to complete a load.
Still waiting on the boss to head in to the Speed Queen store. --107.147.xx.xx |
