New HomeDepot Issues (by Robert J [CA]) Posted on: May 17, 2025 8:21 PM Message:
In California, maybe elsewhere, Home Depot uses third party shippers to deliver Special Orders and Online Orders.
When I'm lucky and can have things shipped to my local Home Depot Store for pick-up. Other times a Home Depot Employee will deliver a small order directly to a local address.
But when the product come from a vendor, they use a third party.
Two weeks ago I ordered a set of special drill bits, delivered to another address down the street. It took 2 phone calls and 2 weeks for the drills to be found and delivered to my property.
Last week I had ordered 4 new window air conditioners. 2 were delivered to the store, no issues. 2 were damaged by the shipper. They laid the boxes up side down, stacked high, and they leaked oil. I got a refund taking 10 days to show up,, charged back to my credit card. I guess Home Depot need my money for 10 days.
Thursday I ordered a 1-Day Special, a 20" 40 volt chain saw. The third party shipper said it was delivered, placed behind a trash can. I can home and ti was gone. The delivery picture was hard to tell if it was delivered to earth, the moon or mars.
I sent 1 hour on the phone trying to get a refund or replacement. I had to drive to the store and spend over an hour trying to resolve the issue.
HOME DEPOT IS NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE FOR THIRD PARTY DELIVERIES. And, it required a police report to get the credit card company, to charge the sale back. But the Los Angeles Police Department no longer takes mail theft reports. And online as well. They offered me a 1 time 50% credit towards my next purchase, expiring at the end of business day today.

Here’s your problem: You have to specifically buy with SHIPPING, not DELIVERY. With shipping you get UPS, Fed Ex, post office etc. With delivery, you get whoever the closest meth head is who can download a delivery app. Walmart is doing the same thing with the 3rd party shipper. We switched back to shipping only because we had some SKETCHY WEIRDOS showing up at our house. Especially from Home Depot. Even if it takes a few more days. At least UPS & Fed Ex are somewhat vetted. No more of that nonsense. We even get a lot shipped to our PO Box. “Visitor’s Not Welcome”. --24.152.xxx.xx |

Same here. We ordered two portable A/C units from HD that looked like they had been dropped kicked across the parking lot. --64.246.xxx.xx |

Robert J,
Are you going to continue doing business with them or take your business elsewhere?
In LA there must be plenty of other places that would be glad to get the amount of business you say you do.
Maybe you can explain why, since you say you have over 100 million in property and income in the millions per year that you don't have a person to handle these things. Some people like to do some of the hands on work though and I understand that. There's something satisfying in actually doing things, especially for those who started with little and built something. When I had my construction company in Santa Barbara and invested in places,I would do much of the work because I liked it and it gave me a sense of satisfaction. Eventually I did have someone to do things and deal with stuff like that which allowed me to focus on more places. --75.7.xx.xx |

I ordered 10 storm windows years ago, shiped to the HD store. Every shipment had broken windows. Took forever to get 10 unbroken storms. There's no way they made any profit. I learned my lesson until they had a special of the day on mini splits and I ordered 4. Same situation. Complete waste of my time. --174.60.xxx.xxx |

HD has partnered w Walmart to do local deliveries like it's Uber eats. The delivery person puts a package down and takes their Pic, no matter how much money the item is worth. I stick w in store pick up or in store pro delivery on a flatbed truck. Lowe's got rid of their backend delivery coordinator and plopped it all on store fulfillment. So don't expect to get delivies from Lowes w out a hitch. --172.59.xxx.xxx |

Most large corporations try to look for the lowest cost which may not work with the amount damage done by delivery companies. Lowes in Canada no longer exists where now the former Lowes store are Rona. Target lasted here for a few years then no longer. From experience the quality of lumber at HD is less then the local hardware store. HD generally has lower quality building materials then other stores as mainly those who flip houses are not concerned about after a few years along with builders use builders line where it may only last five years or less. If go to WM the quality is much lower than Costco where there is no saving. What the tariff war has done has opened up a lot of products that are made in Canada where the price is higher along the quality is better as well. I have found some of products sold at the restore are much better quality then the big box stores. Do it maybe to buy quality which is going last longer, The reason why many stores want products from Asia is the lower price where the mark up is higher. In the Eu countries they build houses and building with quality building materials where it costs more but last a lot longer, A typical house i a EU the walls in the bedrooms and other rooms are concrete where no drywall. In the event of severe weather there is usually minor damage except floods. --216.110.xxx.xxx |

Sorry so many are having problems with HD. It is our least favorite and last used for supplies. Last week we needed one small item that no other Home Improvement stores carried in stock except HD. It was also $7 less than any place online. The added plus was that it could be delivered the next day. Since they had more than one in stock, I took a chance and bought it to get it the next day and save time driving where I had no other business to conduct.
It not only arrived, but gave a short time window. Never saw the driver, but it was delivered as instructed. --75.11.xx.xx |

Around here Next Door Neighbor posters are complaining that the Uber Eats orders are never received, some posters are saying the drivers are eating the food instead of delivering it. --75.11.xx.xx |
