While running electricity to the shed, may as well pop up a receptacle along the way, in the garden/ patio.
Of course, I could just put an exterior box on a post, but...
anybody have something you've done to make it extra-super-weatherproof? And look good, too.
Like put it inside a box or something? (I've had issues with exterior receptacles failing before)

I think a weatherproof Bell box with an in-use cover on a 4x4 would be your best bet. It has to be gfi protected, but never put a gfi outlet outside (because it’ll be prone to failure). Instead, either have it protected from an interior gfi receptacle or have it on a gfi breaker. If I was doing it, I’d sleeve the wire in rigid conduit to protect from weed eating. Also, anytime I install anything outside, I’ll drill a small weep hole in the bottom of the enclosure to let water out, because it’ll get in regardless of what you do. --75.75.xxx.xxx |

I am hoping you are planning on doing this to your own home as what I am seeing would be a Maintenace headache while adding no value in the form of extra rent --67.140.xx.xxx |

Ray: you are excellent at pointing out things to consider - and absolutely correct.
It would not generate any more rent, and would therefore not be a good investment if I would not be enjoying it myself : )
Although, in a high-end property where these things are expected, It would be worthwhile to make sure they are present. Like, if all the competition has the nice little "extras", mine/yours would need to also, to be competitive.
So, as usual, we all need to know our own markets - they are all different. --72.218.xx.xxx |

I just had an electrician wire a greenhouse and everything is super waterproof and weather proof, because it is damp inside a greenhouse. So there is lots of stuff available to protect electricity from damp.
The places it might look good, if you do not have a railing around the patio where it could be located, would be to put in a taller garden light, something on a post and attach your electric to that. --76.178.xxx.xxx |

Where that outlet might not yield extra money, would exterior lighting get you more money? --67.140.xx.xxx |

I agree with Jason.
If you wanted to go further (which I don't think would be necessary), you could just screw a flat plate of wood on top of the 4x4 that acted as an "eave" or "umbrella" for the outlet...maybe make it like 14" square or something to prevent wind-driven rain issues.
On a house, you have the eaves to protect from falling rain...but in your situation you wouldn't have that "eave" of added protection. --64.38.xxx.xxx |
