PVC conduit (by DJ [VA]) Posted on: May 5, 2025 3:23 PM

Question for the experienced electricians out there

Buried PVC conduit, to carry electrical wire to a shed.

Which cement would you use for the joints?

I see conflicting opinions online.

All the cans I read in the store say to use primer then cement, but I've seen someone online use just one coat of cement, and only on one piece of pipe, to join them.

That's appealing - much quicker.

But, I don't know what they used or if they were correct doing that way

Thanks

Use the primer then the glue. The primer cleans and softens the PVC for a better bond. I have always used Oatey - no problems with primer or glue. Be sure to use the primer and glue specially made for Electrical PVC.

Just takes a little bit more time to do it right. --75.182.xxx.xxx

Also do not test fit after you put primer on, do it before.

Sometimes it will stick but not be a good seal. --107.147.xx.xx

FYI

you can run conduit into the ground and then run underground cable over to garage. Then conduit up to box and into building. --98.34.xx.xxx
