Maybe the cop will have a house to sell you .... or one of his buddies will. You're getting advertising to the entire police department. Maybe buy the thief a free ice cream at McDonalds as a thank you if you get a referral out of it.

People like that are the reason why many things are behind locked cages in the stores which is a hassle for those of us who don't steal. It's my understanding that the employees are instructed not to confront thieves.

Sounds like he doesn't work for you but apparently knows someone who does. --23.28.xx.xx

You should jump all over this online wherever you see it. The news or the local Home Depot website. Use it to advertise for yourself. Something like, “we won’t steal your tools, but we will steal your heart when you sell us your house!” --24.152.xxx.xx

Home Depot sells a lot of builders line of products where house flippers buy those products where most will not last 3 to 5 years. The objective is substandard renovations where short cuts are made where buyers will not see what is behind the walls which may have mold along with other issues with electrical, plumbing. The house I inherited had many issues where the microwave, dishwasher was on the same 15 amp circuit where brought a 20 amp 3 wire with ground then installed two 20 amp circuit breakers where no codes require 20 amps. No matter what work was done would never put laminate flooring in kitchen where when funds are available going to install a Schluter ditra membrane then install a good quality porcelain tile which is going to last a very long time. What is cheap is a landfil product. Here some rental housing providers are in the never ending 3 years or less of using laminate flooring. Now over time fixed many of the problems in house where the spray foam is working along with less heat is required along with metal roof and insulation it is hot for three hours in afternoon then a night open windows then use ceiling fan. Only people who have to sell that do not funds or the ability to make repairs and renovations sell or they are going to retirement home. --216.110.xxx.xxx

I worked for a commercial contractor. They had baseball type hats. Somehow a vagrant got ahold of one. The VP of the company hated it and offered a reward for anyone who could get the hat back.

Secretly we all loved it and would never even approach the guy. But we never told the boss.

Later on in life when I was running a cabinet shop I would have vendors come in and hand me their business cards. If it didn't have a picture on it, which they rarely did, I would say something like thanks for this. When I go to the bars and hit on women I always like having a biz card to give them.

The looks on their faces was epic. No, I didn't go to bars with the cards, but it was the type of humor I had. --107.147.xx.xx

According to friends of mine who work at the local Home Depots, they are not allowed to confront shoplifters, no matter how brazen. Corporate does NOT want anyone (employee or customer) to be injured by a shoplifter who feels threatened or frightened.

So Ken should not expect the cops to become involved. They probably don't even have the video of this "We Buy Homes" shoplifter. --71.38.xx.xxx

Did he also steal the shirt?

As Mike45 said, HD and other stores will not chase shoplifter. He said they had video of people just wheeling refrigerators, etc out the door.

The $1000 refrigerator loss is cheaper than a possible lawsuit or injured employee.

There is a video online of a HD clerk tyring to interupt a shoplifter as he walk out. He was knocked to the ground, hit his head and died.

This is the exact reason Brad, that HD needs to install the TAZOR Automatic 2000. You get caught stealing that clerk zaps you with enough voltage to takes you down to ground. --67.140.xx.xxx

Put me on the list as a beta tester for it.

I can see a lot of good from an item like this. I also need to know how to avoid the attorney bills from all the lawsuits tho. --107.147.xx.xx

Oops! A sentence disappeared from my post.

Son#2 worked security at Lowes and also a big dept store (clothing, shoes, houseware...)

He was instructed to never confront a shoplifter. The job was more about monitoring trouble areas/products, go hover near the suspect to let them know they're being watched, and tracking obvious things that walked out the door, like videos of refrigerators, washers, dryers being wheeled out with Lowes own dollies!

And the Lowes employee LOADERS innocently helping load the stolen item right outside the door.

I cannot being to imagine how much walks out the door at Lowes.

Talking to a seasoned employee in the paint department a few years back. She said that they had video where a person walked in, grabbed an expensive five gallon pail of paint and walked out with it.

That same person was on video at at least two other stores walking in and getting merch cards for the same paint. This went on for a while. Same person, or persons, would then grab a pail from that store and take it to the next.

This was when you could use the merch cards without having them tied to your driver's license.
