Comedy at it's best n LA (by Robert J [CA]) Posted on: Mar 15, 2025 11:32 PM Message:
I had closed the property's sliding security gate for the main entry driveway area. During the day it's on manual, and only after 10PM does it become automatic.
I had dropped off my JPG 30 foot man-lift so I could pressure wash off loose paint before I began re-painting this 50 year old property/apartment house.
Since it's Saturday and most tenants are home, I just set thing up for a brief test. Then Karen showed up, you know the self important Housing/Health Inspector. This property was set of a mid June/July first inspection. But the City seeing me "work" with no "permits", and had pulled my General Contractors Licensed--they were after my blood.
Karen (not her real name) started "barking" orders to me. Then on "Q" my rear upstairs tenant, "Kim" came out of her apartment. Speaking in Romanian (She's been in American half her life), and bearing fangs (A Halloween prop) and saying "Leave before I has my feast"! Then repeating herself in Spanish then in English.
Next a downstairs tenant came out of her unit with her little dog, a massive great dane, barking and causing things to move. She let go of the lease and to dog went after Karen. Karen took off like a swarm of wasps were after her.
The police came and stated I had a dog attach the inspector and a vampire was also after Karin. My vampire Kim, came downstairs and recognized one cop, who comes to her place of employment. She was a Hotel night manager that had interacted with the police. She is no vampire but a respected "manager". And the Lady with the Great Dame, worked for Cesar Milan, the dog whisperer.
For 25 years the City and other department rely of false statements to whipe landlords into submission, here in L.A.. But two can play at their game. --47.155.xx.xx |

The objective is to force rental housing providers to sell rentals at a loss then the rules change once the government takes over. Like what happened when landlord took out his money then sold to the city for a dollar to make the transaction where the day the city a few million dollars in repairs along with the suddenly found they were no longer under rent control where the majority received a very large rent increase. Here in the province of Ontario if there is government rental complex the building inspectors are reluctant to come over to inspect as it one government agency prosecuting another government entity. One complex there was a problem with the hot water system which took close four months to fix. A private operator would have fixed in a week where installed indirect hot water tanks then used the all boiler to heat the hot water where at each indirect hot water was installed then there would adequate hot water. If was going consider buying a rental complex would go to province of Alberta where no rent control along with lower taxes, cleaning and damage deposits are legal along more balanced landlord and tenant act. Finally there is reason why there homeless problem in Los Angeles where governments can never build the amount the rental housing to solve the problem. So it is hardship for all where the problem gets worse. Tariffs for example are going stagflation which is force the economy to go into a deep recession where the countries will fight back like a 25 per cent tariff on electric and counter tariffs on everything else along will not spend there or buy from there. Where in 2018 tariffs on Aluminium, steel and lumber were dropped where he said you are disrespectful, not nice and weak really then the tariffs were dropped. Last week at the grocery store the strawberries were on sale where they can rot as no one will buy where will buy local or from another country. So in the end it is stupidity where you have to learn from history. --216.110.xxx.xxx |

I call BS on this story. An inspector working on Saturday? Can’t you come up with something more believable? --98.13.xx.xx |

Not a BS story. Inspectors get a percentage of fines paid by landlords, since 1998. That's why everyone building things have trouble getting permits in L.A. Each inspector has their own way of making money. Giving contradiction orders, fines and extra fee's. It take the average person building a room addition, bathroom or even a simple kitchen remodel 1-1/2 years of fighting for permits.
Last month I was supeniaed to testify in an insurance case. Mayor BS Bass said she would stream line the permit process. No more delays.
I person who lost their home in the L.A. fires was going to rebuild. They had all of their original plans. The old house was built less than 10 years ago and codes haven't changed that much. So as a designer, builder, contractor and owner I was called to provide incite as to why the "old" permits were not good and the owners had to re-do everything -- plans, permits, etc.
I first began my testimony, to a jury, as to why this plans weren't accepted. #1, there is not $25,000 park fund. #2, there is not bribe for the City counsel and mayors office. #3, the contractors hired to do the work were not related to any city big wig.
I then spoke for 2 hours on how the city has screwed me over at every turn. The only way I can build something today is to pull a self inspection permit and do the work in secret, until finished.
How I purchased a barn near Canoga Park and built a strip mall inside the barn. Then when complete, I tore the barn down, exposing a strip mall... Since one tenant was a company owned by a City Employee, I has little issues. --47.155.xx.xx |

I can not find anything related to inspectors getting a percentage of the fines when I look it up.
Best kept secret on the internet I guess. --107.147.xx.xx |

If you are ever on Laurel Canyon and head into the side door down the driveway to parking, then head into the morning conference room there is a chart posted on a wall showing which inspector issued the most fines. Winner get a all paid vacation for them and 3 others. --47.155.xx.xx |

All public employee's salary is listed online. I look up my tenants too. One cried she could afford a $52 a month raise. When she moved in, as a teacher she was earning around 70K. Now 15 years later she broke the $200K mark. --47.155.xx.xx |

Yes, public employee salaries may be listed publicly in some instances. But what I'm asking is how you magically know what their bonus money was specifically spent on.
Since it was only a year ago, how about you link us to the spot listing the bonuses of your local inspectors? I'd be curious to check it out.

John, knowing his stories he probably planted a listening device in the office, or a trojan in the computer system.
I mean, why not? It would be one of the lesser laws he has broken if you believe his stories. --107.147.xx.xx |
