My kids are looking to rent a 1-bedroom apartment in Mountain View, CA. The problem is that the rent needs to start in May, and they can't find anyone who will sign a lease so far in advance. Any leads will be greatly appreciated. --71.249.xxx.xxx |

Have they contacted many places who denied them under the terms of a May start date? Mountain View has so many multi-story apartment complexes with vacancies.
Are your kids in NY and are looking to procure a place before heading to Silicon Valley? Does it have to be Mountain View? How about Sunnyvale which is right next to Mountain View? --73.93.xx.xx |

Salernitana, I will ask about Sunnyvale.
They told me that they contacted some apartment complexes, but were instructed to contact a month in advance.
Moving company told them it will take a week to bring car and stuff from NY.
The idea was: sign a lease, make an arrangement with supert, I guess, to open an apartment. Fly a week later. --71.249.xxx.xxx |

They are fine with Sunnyvale.
A couple of miles will not make big difference.
They are moving cross country anyway. --174.216.xxx.xxx |

If it is rally important to them to have a place signed up and secured, perhaps it would be acceptable to them to pay for an extra month and start on April 1.
I'm raising an eyebrow on the shipping information. I have never had a moving company move that quickly, nor deliver when promised. --76.178.xxx.xxx |

It's just the market in the Bay Area. Most units don't stay vacant very long unless they are priced incorrectly so landlords won't commit to long wait times.
I have had tenants start long before they would like just so they can secure the place. It is not uncommon for my places to rent in 1 week so there is no motivation to wait. --99.33.xx.xxx |

Your kids will find something even if it takes some looking. Perhaps, they could evaluate places in Redwood City. So many apartment buildings have been constructed there over the past few years. Nearby Los Altos would be supreme as would Palo Alto and Menlo Park too.
They sound pro-active and laid out a good schedule. Best of luck to them. --71.198.xxx.xxx |

If Palo Alto might be an option, please note that East Palo Alto is very different and should be evaluated with caution. It's across the freeway and has actually been gentrified over the decade especially since Facebook/Meta set up their offices nearby. --71.198.xxx.xxx |
