It's been refreshing to see a societal change happening. What do you think it'll take to bring about a reversal on the silly ESA emotional support animal decade long experiment?
What can we do to encourage our lobby to get on that to bring awareness? It's time for change.

My take is we need to go back to real rules. It's not right to force animals on property owners and neighbors who chose to live in pet free buildings. What about allergy concerns? One could make an argument those can be more physical of a health issue than emotional support.

Also, let's be honest, is it fair to the animal to have an owner who is going through a tough time and can't even take care of themselves? I'm not advocating for rules to animal ownership, but owning one should be a priveledge. Either you find a property that accepts your animal or become a homeowner. Those are my thoughts.
I hope Trump cancels ESA laws as we know them. Of course ADA trained animals would not be affected. That is a different situation altogether. That group of people also never cheated the system like the joke ESA have become, and ADA is such a smaller subset we can all deal with .01 percent of those situations. --68.190.xxx.xx |

True, and yes agreed overall. But that one should be an easy one to dismantle. And it should be top priority. Tenants have really abused that and it's caused a ton of problems. Everyone knows it's bs. People don't want to fly next to a horse. It was cheaper to just say it's for medical reasons, airlines got it changed. Same thing for housing.

Sure, most people like kittens and puppies myself included. I have also been bit by a dog that took a chunk out of my leg. I won't say what happened after that but he did not do it again.

We should not be forced to live nextdoor to one if we don't want, much less accept them in our building. Also agree it is not fair to the animals. Humans don't like to be caged, tied up, locked up in spaces, told how to act, told to hush, ect...and yet they want to do all of this to animals.
Although I love animals, I don't want them in my houses, and as you stated, there are other concerns and other people to consider, plus the fraud.

It would indeed be great if the ESA debacle was finally shut down.
I have not had any prospects claim ESA. I charge animal rents and have people that are happy to pay it. Not sure exactly how I will deal with an application that lists an ESA. I know I will be looking really close at everything else simply because of the problems created by the fakers.
I have a sister who got a doctor to sign off on her Great Dane so they could take it to campgrounds that didn't allow the mutt.
We no longer talk and that is one of the main reasons.

I occasionally get someone claiming to have an ESA. That claim stops when I say, I require renter's insurance from all my tenants - will there be an issue getting your animal insured? If they say NO - why do you ask, I say many insurance companies may not underwrite if you have a Pet T-Rex or other crazy animal in the household - I really don't want to see anyone lose their screening money because the insurance company will tell them NO. My application has wording at the animals section quoting the IN law for misrepresenting service animals. I include that with the monetary fines and the fact that we will assist in conviction. ESA misrepresentation is a much smaller dollar amount. I leave the SA part in there more for shock value.
I hate saying this but I believe one of the reasons I am not hit with ESA junk is that I do not have lower end places. Got rid of my D units a long while back. (Still all C units tho)
When I have been sitting in court the only deadbeats that I have listened to drone on about ESAs are the ones living in places that I would not own.
