Check with Consumer Reports on the Quality and Features of Smoke, Fire, Heat and C/O types AND weather Battery (Lithium 10 year), Hard Wire OR Hard Wire with Battery Back Up.

My Low Income Tenants have it so nice. A safe, clean, modern and cheep apartment. So how do they thank me? They remove the Batteries (9-volt) and us it to power their kids toys. Since the smoke detectors will chirp without a back up battery, my tenants disconnect the smoke detector all together--putting all residents in Danger..

Here in the Los Angeles area, I can NOT Evict even a mass murderer, let alone someone who won't pay rent to torch a property.

SO my smoke detectors cost $287 each. Made of metal with a cage around them. Wired, wireless and tamper proof. If someone manages to disconnect one, a strobe light goes off on my buildings roof and a 100 dB alarm sounds. Only the fire department can turn it off with their keys. --45.77.xxx.xxx

I thought I bought some at Home Depot. They are pretty pricey. Maybe check online. Menards has their 11% rebate for the next couple days. The fire department may furnished three for free to your residents but I'm not sure if they are sealed type --172.59.xxx.xxx

The cheapest place here for the 10 year non wired smoke alarms is Walmart by far, way cheaper than the box stores. --209.205.xxx.xx

Why is this a state-specific question? Are you not willing to order online? Do you only buy local? If so, why didn't you list the city you're in?

I prefer the photoelectric types...they are better at sensing smoke rather than flame...and smoky fires are the ones most people die from.

Home Depot sells a 4-pack of the mini ones for $64. As for CO...IMO you only need one in a house. Depending on the type of house I either put it in the living area but near the garage (if it's an older house that doesn't have a good seal between the house and garage...due to concerns about leaving a car running to warm up in winter in a closed garage) or near the furnace...as that's the other main source of CO in a house. CO is about the same density as air...so it doesn't make much difference if you put the detector near the floor or ceiling...so I use the plug-in type and make sure it's listed on the lease so if it's gone when they move out...I charge them $50. --64.38.xxx.xxx

$50 ? That's not enough. I'm changing my charge for replacing smoke detectors! It's going to hurt cause it hurts me to buy them! And they are disrespected. --172.59.xxx.xx
