Lease states, "No Pets". Tenant has asked to have a Bearded Dragon. Thoughts please. Thanks --172.58.xxx.xxx |

A bearded dragon is a pet.
That was easy. *grins --184.4.xx.xx |

If you do not want pets then there is nothing else to say.
Now if you want to charge for having pets that is a different conversation.
My lease says no animals unless authorized. --107.147.xx.xx |

It is a pet. You still have to clean up after it or it will stink. Then again, the same goes for people... --73.230.xxx.xx |

Once I asked "and where did you get this dragon?" They answered without hesitation "the pet store" so there you go, it's a pet and it came from the Pet store. They then paid the fees --172.59.xxx.xxx |

I thought I might be the only one that has these strange pet requests. The applicant stated that they would take the big lizard on walks using a leash. I told them I had a strict "no pets/animals policy". They mentioned they might be able to get rid of it somehow, but I always tell them that I haven't had one person yet give up their pet to rent one of my places. --23.245.xxx.xx |

Collectively landlords do a bad job communicating what we expect from our clients. If you are asking us what to do, then there is a strong chance, you were not specific enough about the consequences about breaking your rules. --24.101.xxx.xxx |

Gene, I have yet to see a lizard out for a walk.
I do have a tenant who puts a leash on his cat and lets it go outside for potty breaks. I would say that it helps keep the smell down but he is one of my smokers so it keeps one smell down. --107.147.xx.xx |

My concern is mostly for cats and dogs when it comes to restrictions on pets. Animals kept in aquariums or cages 100% of the time have never been a problem.
