Just curious, how long do you think it should take a man to cut out a one piece fiberglass tub unit, install a steel tub and surround? Our guy has been with us since'08, is 61.

It took about three days providing you don't have to do too much repair from the tear out to the regular walls. I installed a roll of tile around the damaged area to get them looking nicer instead of trying to level out the mud --24.101.xxx.xxx |

A lot depends on the job. Was the new tub the same size as the old, or did the drain and water lines have to be moved to stay centered? Was there water damage on the floor? The walls? Did he repair the walls too? Did he have to pull the toilet to get the tub out?
It sounds like you're not happy at how long it took. If he's been with you since '08, pay the bill and be grateful he's still willing to help you! --104.230.xxx.xxx |

Took me a lot longer than that on my last bath remodel.
Good thing I don't charge myself by the hour.
I cut a steel tub up, removed the glue on surround and the ugly tile behind it, replaced with cement board, plastic tub, surround and then tiled all around that. Also had a window I covered up and a new exhaust fan to install.
Repaired some flooring from a toilet leak, installed new LVP, trim, silicone, paint, etc.
The room is too small to have more than one person working in there at a time. Maybe if I had another person we could have worked in shifts.
Be happy that you have someone who is willing to actually work. I am a bit envious. --154.47.xx.xxx |

10 hours is not bad, but OSB is not the best choice for surround or tile backing. --107.141.xx.xxx |

Install hardii cement board as water does not cause damage. Also consider installing a Schluter diitra membrane under bathtub. Can install a Schluter ditra membrane on walls to prevent water damage. A good renovation should easily last twenty years or more. --216.110.xxx.xxx |

I was hoping for less, but hey, I do know how fortunate I am to have him. I DID vote for cement board but was outvoted! The 2 guys thought this would work --216.126.xx.xxx |

OSB on the walls will work forever unless you get a leak. Then you are in trouble.
I think it is better than just standard drywall. But the last tub and surround I pulled had old 1/2 inch drywall and 4x4 tiles with no damage until under where the window was. That stuff was installed in the late 70's. --107.147.xx.xx |
