Renewed my post office box today was looking at the payment history for the cost for this. In September 20 20, it was $106 a year. Now it’s $182 a year. That’s the most inflation I’ve seen so far. Quite the jump. Must be those darned profiteering postal workers! --24.152.xxx.xx |

P.O. Box inflation (by Robert,OntarioCanada [ON]) Posted on: Sep 24, 2024 12:28 AM Message:
The Canada postal service is facing challenges where they have stuck to the old way of doing things in a structural change in economy. Now there is less revenue as result of online billing along with most the goods shipped online are done by private companies that have 7 day a week delivery. In the meantime they are increasing postal rates along trying to stick to the way things were done a lot time ago. In the house across the street can pick up mail in the postal box where on the other side of the street they use mail carries to go door to door to deliver mail. One thing I prefer about having online with post office is put in postal box across the street where there is no theft possible. So in the end the situation in the Us is much the same where government run does not want to change with times. So in the end the post office is operating at a loss. Maybe after the election definitely a Progressive Conservative is elected where they are going to look at cost cutting. --216.110.xxx.xxx |

Mine has steadily increased since we got it in 2000. I will keep it as that's one more way to keep people from knowing my current address.
My new son-in-law works for the postal service. I don't know what he makes an hour but they work him six and seven days a week nearly all the time.
Not complaining about it, the boy needs a good work ethic. --107.147.xx.xx |

This is not really recent inflation related. Prices under DeJoy have more than doubled for POBoxes -- and he's also significantly jacked shipping rates too.
That being said, the previous PMG (Brennan) also had some boxes double in price -- but they were more targeted at the larger boxes. DeJoy has targeted all of them and, as I said, doubled the prices over again.
And, Homer, I know you are poking fun, but the reality is that POBox prices WERE capped in the past. Back in the 2010s, they classified some facilities as "competitive post offices" and allowed them to charge higher fees than the previously capped prices. Prices have been steadily rising since then regardless of inflation.

Stamp prices seem to go up every few months. The post office's main problem is declining volume however, they're my go to for priority mail as it's far cheaper than the private services. I think Fedex next day deliver is north of $ 50.00 and two-day is about half of that. Two day priority mail runs around $ 9.00. --23.28.xx.xx |

I had to set up a locking mailbox at a home we use for storage because The UPS Store stopped taking anything that did not go thru USPS with postage (Like paper apps, keys, etc)
Maybe we should just use that as our business address.
