Spent 20 hours driving from NEPA to Atlanta yesterday. Got in pretty tired with 5 kids. One good thing with 5 kids is we did get to visit every bathroom on the interstates coming down! I never thought I would be on a bathroom tour of the East Coast, but here we are. Woke up this morning needing some heavy cream for our coffee. My wife was working on a small grocery list so we could run to the store. I asked her if they have delivery service since we are in a city. Yes! The grocery store will have it here in 75 minutes or less! We can’t get showered, dressed and loaded in the car in 75 minutes. I was telling my wife we humans have it way too easy. We no longer have to clear the fields, raise the cow, milk it , skim the cream and use it before it turns to cottage cheese. We pull out our phone, click a button and it shows up at our door. We have one pizza delivery service in the town I live in and you can only eat so much pizza from the same place. So this is a little different Atlanta is a very different world than what I live in. We don’t leave the area we live in too much, by choice. I do get food delivered to my door back home, but we order our way in advance. Beef a year, pigs a year, Chicken six months to a year ahead of time from the farmer. The same thing with eggs abd certain vegetables in bulk. Also, This is also our first time using Airbnb.I will be posting a follow up to this in a few days with my thoughts on the experience.

One thing off the top of my head that I know that I would not like is living next-door to one and having different people in and out constantly. Especially when my kids are playing in the backyard or whatever. --174.245.xxx.xx

We live in a time of bountiful choices on every front. Go to the store and you'll find 8 different types of Cheerios, plus a dozen knock off store brands. Or as you did, just order it on your phone and someone will bring it to you for a $5 tip.

And yet people complain that everything is so bad.

My advice to them? Move to sub-Sahara Africa. Live there for 8 weeks. Then let's discuss again. We can talk about the person's weight loss, which will inevitably occur when they cannot find enough base grain to make into 3 meals per day. We can also discuss how they enjoyed living with dysentery due to all the parasites in the water from raw sewage being dumped into the drinking water supply. And as far as politics go, we can discuss which warlord was their least favorite when he came to plunder the village, r*pe the women, and ensl*ve the children.

We're so spoiled in this country...

Enjoy the trip and the restroom tours. I remember the days of many young 'uns with small bladders. Trips had many stops, at bathrooms, playgrounds, ice cream stores, etc. All good times banked in the memory book!

I like AirBnb as a guest. Not so much as a Host. For folks who have a spare space already, it can work great. I'll be interested to hear your feedback.

37 minutes from pushing confirm order on the phone and groceries are delivered to an address that isn’t even mine. Crazy. I tell you what, if you ever wanted to anonymously help a needy family, that’s the way to do it. --174.245.xxx.xx

Heavy cream is always a travel issue for me. I can't have milk or creamers (diabetic.) I've found STARBUCKS will let me have or buy a cup of heavy cream that lasts a few days. Starbucks is everywhere so that was a good discovery. --198.54.xxx.xxx

I would rather be in PA.

What was the road trip to Atlanta for? It sure wasn't for the traffic experience.

I find it odd that a DIYer calls in for food and pays the extra cost for that, what gives?

Don't you hunt?

Times certainly have changed.

Looking forward to your review of the experience. It will be interesting, given where you came from and where you went to.

It probably was a better option to have delivered considering the traffic there, although, depending on where you are in Atlanta, you could likely have walked to get it. --76.129.xxx.xx

Speaking of AirBNB... We also did our first AirBNB trips this year -- one in Detroit and one a week later in Cleveland.

Detroit one went great -- no issues!

Cleveland one I found a loaded handgun wrapped in a t-shirt in the cupboard above the fridge. Called the host and it wasn't his, so they sent some staff to surrender it to the police. (It was a piece of junk revolver that had been spray-painted black at some point.)

So, for me, I'm 50/50 on AirBNB being better than a hotel... heh.

I was just thinking about how easy we have it the other day when I was watching a news show. They were interviewing some S8 housing complex and everyone was complaining that the hurricane knocked out everyone's AC and people couldn't live like that. Funny thing, when I was a kid no one had AC. I knew people that barely had electricity and no running water. Interesting how the perception of a need has changed over the years. I wonder what it will look like in another 50 years, probably won't even have to think about it, some mind reading robot will have your coffee at the precise temperature with the precise amount of heavy cream at your lips for you to take a sip before you even raise your hand as the kids are being dressed by a different robot.

I remember mom handing us a coffee can when we were on a long trip because my dad didn't want to stop for all of us kids. Ha, you'd probably get turned into CPS for that today.

NE, great times are coming for you.

It is always good to let the little ones see different parts of the country. Gives them some perspective. There will always be greener grass, but in reality my kids have stayed in the area because it isn't as bad as they thought.

Now they are grown and if the wife and I travel we seem to have to take nearly the same amounts of restroom breaks. --107.147.xx.xx
