Back on this day in 1981 The Bungles started off MTV with Video Killed the Radio Star and MTV was born. Now I am not exactly sure when MTV stopped playing videos but it is far from music TV now a days.
So as we get older, things change. We are more resistant to change and it is harder to keep up. Guess in the end, reality TV killed the video star.

Ah yes, MTV.
Thanks for the 14 years of music. --107.147.xx.xx |

Minor correction -- the band is called "The Buggles", not "The Bungles". Maybe auto-corrected? :)

Ha! you're going waaaay back.
I graduated from high school in 1981.
Never did get into MTV.
Or "reality" TV.
I can certainly relate to things changing. Much of it is my change in perspective & how I deal with things. --68.229.xxx.xxx |

Sometimes you hear a catching song, but you don't hear the meaning. Your caught up in the tunes, but not the words. Perhaps we should add tunes to the changes. --76.129.xxx.xx |

I remember in college seeing MTV music videos for the first time. I thought it was something with all that big hair, weird outfits, and music combined.
I saw one of those first few video's the other day and had a good laugh. We were certainly dweebs back then for drooling over them. --209.205.xxx.xx |

Speaking of those days...
I was just at the Def Leppard (with Journey and Steve Miller or Cheap Trick) shows in Detroit and Cleveland. (Doing a little work for the band, but my wife loves to watch the shows.)
They are still selling out Stadiums! While other tours are floundering, Def Leppard's have been sold out or near sold out almost everywhere. Great to see them doing so well still!

Ah yes, the Top 10 daily countdown. I "met" a lot of artists that way. Sad to see the video star days goes...
But wait! There still are music videos all over on YouTube. Fancier than ever, at the click/tap of a finger.
I too "recently" saw Def Leppard, Poison, Motley Crue, and Joan Jett a couple of years ago when they were on tour. Live at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. Great show, lots of fun! They still rock.
The only disappointment was at a later date on that same tour, apparently there was a "drum tech malfunction", and Tommy Lee (Crue's drummer) was away from his drum kit and some percussion tracks kicked on... stuff he was supposedly playing in the live show. Sort of a Milli Vanilli moment.

Journey played our high school graduation party. 1974. Yep, I'm that old. They were not yet famous. --74.222.xxx.xxx |

RayRay,
Maybe BUNGLES is the correct term for all us LLs back in '81!
We did not have cable so did not get to see MTV.
In 1973, while I was in college as a trumpet major, CHASE was playing at a local high school cafeteria. Apparently this was booked before they made it big so they had to make good on their contract.
Barely 100 people. I sat on the linoleum floor right in front of them and still have the hearing loss to prove it!
