Several posts back, I posted about having students from other countries and how they always try to negotiate the rent prices and the security deposit.
At the end of my ad, I state the price of the security deposit, the price of the room and the total move-in costs, and I specifically say no negotiating on either
Well, yesterday I got another graduate student coming from India trying to convince me 1000 ways from Sunday why I should lower the rent. I told him no, Did you not see in the ad where there is no negotiation?
A few hours later, he messaged me back and said “ Please let me know if you change your mind, as I need to make plans”. I told him “ I already gave you my answer, no negotiations.”
This morning, he sent his application in along with his acceptance letter from the university as he is desperate for a room. Looks like he will be paying the full price!

Yes, I am beginning to understand that it is a cultural difference. I have a fellow Landlord who is from India and she told me that they are negotiators.
I just stuck to my guns and he relented as he was desperate for a place.

I had people tell me that they didn't want to pay more than 600., what they were paying now. We missed 3 months rent due to eviction, May, June and finally got him out in July but work needed to be done, so rented today for 650.00. A 14 x 48 2/1 singlewide. Never thought I'd get that for it, as it's old (1986) but not much around here and rooms shared are going for that. We were getting 575. I have a loss to make up. --216.126.xx.xxx |

The Indian tenants I have did not try to negotiate price but they keep breaking stuff.
Same tenants that would not run the exhaust vent in the bathroom. I took a meter over there two days ago when I fixed something else but a guy was just walking out of the shower.
Plan to put the DewStop switch in there but didn't have the right cover for it and noticed the new smoke detector was missing. Claimed the battery was dead. It was a ten year unit and only been in service a couple months. --107.147.xx.xx |
