I started renting a storage unit to store some surplus construction stuff that I have accumulated over the years. Getting a 300 sq/ft unit was only $22 more than a 200 sq/ft unit so I got the large unit. I got a discount for prepaying for the year out the gate.

So I have run over a pickup truck of stuff at the end of the last two days. Both times I was there, there was the same person at a different unit just hanging out in a camping chair. The first time I saw this person, I thought that is odd but maybe you are meeting someone to sell something there. But at 3 PM today, they were there again - just vegging again. It doesn't look like they are living there overnight - but they do enjoying staying with their stuff.

I have to wonder if they are one of the un-rentables. This happen near any of you?

Did you ask the management co? They might not know. --73.230.xxx.xx

Onsite manager may know. If he's not causing any troubles, no worries. Just use a quality disc lock on your unit and he won't bug you. Those things are a PITA to cut off and draw a lot of attention to you, even with a good angle grinder. Ask this former storage unit owner how he knows! *grins --184.4.xx.xx

Years back I knew a guy from Lansing that had storage units.

Some of the stories he told were hilarious.

More recently I have talked with locals who know people that live in the storage units because they can't rent a place and were kicked out of the half way houses.

Probably between '95 and '97 my boss at the time started putting up SS buildings. Once started he couldn't add them quick enough. He almost felt bad because of all the money he was making.

Silly me didn't take his advice and start some on my own. Now they are almost as common as gas stations around here. Always seem full though. --107.147.xx.xx

I'm surprised you didn't buy the storage facility instead.

might just be retired and hanging out there to avoid his wife. What would it take to build a line of them for rentals to live in with a community bathroom and kitchen elsewhere on the property? --74.77.xx.xx

Local newspaper here did articles highlighting the homeless. One recent homeless person and a friend rented one to keep the few belongings/clothing they had safe. They would go there to change clothes but were not sleeping there. --73.159.xxx.xx
