Is this new? I never remember before companies that want my email PLUS my password. I'm talking about when you get something ordered not just random companies that contact you. For instance if there is a warranty involved or other reasons that they would contact you.
I don't mind giving my email address, but I don't understand why they need my password and I'm uncomfortable with them having that. They are apparently not looking for you to make up password for them to use but your real password connected with your email.
Anyone else reluctant to do this? --73.126.xx.xxx |

I have never been asked for it. Aren't we told not to give it? Sure it isn't a "fake"? I wouldn't give it. --73.230.xxx.xx |

Didn’t you already post this a few weeks ago? They’re probably asking you to set up an account with them. --24.152.xxx.xx |

I would dig a little deeper. It sounds like they want you to sign into or create a Dell acct. How can they expect people to give up their passwords? --24.152.xxx.xx |

Post a link to the website. You probably just need to “checkout as guest” because they’re asking you to log into their system, assuming you have an account. --73.147.xxx.xx |

hey yur rt,.I went back and scrolled down and found way down on the DELL site they did allow to sigh in as a guest and I was able to complete my order,.but I don't think I was given that option on other sites. --73.126.xx.xxx |

No legitimate site wants the password to your email account.
They likely are asking you to log into their site using your email address as your user name and a password you have created for their site. If you haven't created a login for their site, you can either create one or proceed as a guest as you did here. --68.1.xxx.xxx |

I forget, what was your mother's maiden name again? I remember you mentioned it when we talked about your first pet that was given to you by your favorite teacher.

Yeah, something about this doesn't make sense. You are either misunderstanding Dell if it is legit -- or you are being scammed and it isn't even really Dell.

Also, while we're at it... For laptop battery replacements, I'd just go to Amazon and get a compatible one with good reviews. We do that all the time at work. My guess is that Dell will want 3x the price for the same battery that will come out of the same factory in China.

John, what would you consider a good review for a laptop battery on Amazon? If I only look at items with 100÷ reviews, the best I see are about 75% 5 star, 10% 1 star, with the balance spread between 3 and 4 star. It seems like I've got a 25% chance of being less than fully satisfied. Asking because I need to replace the battery in my personal laptop. --68.1.xxx.xxx |

Basically, if it has a bunch of reviews (100+) and their average is over 4 stars, then that is probably decent for a battery (because you get people who order the wrong ones or don't know what they are doing or have a bad power supply who are going to rate it 1-star).
Basically, I ignore 1-star reviews in most cases. Because they are almost always an angry person that doesn't know how to use the product or ordered the wrong thing.
I see 1-star reviews all the time for Amazon-warehoused products that complain about the shipping speed and such. Which has nothing to do with the product. They are just from fools who don't get how the review system should work.
