Do driveways and patios experience frost heave? In other words do they change elevation more then 1/4" from below zero winter to 100 degree summer?

I have had paved driveways "Alligator" on me before. That is typical when the ground under it is not as stable as it should be.
Companies can patch those areas but that still doesn't fix the root cause of it. I have tried hacking it before by using soft patch and sprinkling mortar over the top of it so that the oil would wick up to the top to the mortar. It does make it stronger but I am not sure how long it will last.
Hope that helps Don --24.101.xxx.xxx |

Yes, they crack and can heave, depending on soil and conditions. If you use bricks, it's easier to fix BUT brick driveways and walkways cost a lot more. --172.58.xxx.xx |

If it isn't on a foundation or at least tied to pillars it can heave.
Sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. Sometimes it will stress the cement enough to make it crack.
I have it in a few places.
One of the problems with living in an area where the climate changes so much. --107.147.xx.xx |

Yes, I believe so, and, they can also ‘street creep’ or so I have read. --172.58.xxx.xxx |
