So no ,I'm not getting involved but someting I'm Wondering about, a long term women has her former husband, still friends ,visting every othe week on the week ends.
He clams while driving the 100 miles of driving home that his engine siezed,..and found that his oil plug missing,..they think it was vandalized while parking in the driveway,.loosining the oil plug,..But I wonder:
Wouldn't the engine light immediatly come on as soon as it leaked and the oil pressure dropped? Also the engine would get immedialy hot and wouldn't THAT show up on the engine light come on?
The woman says that her husband knows a lot about cars and changes the oil himself and is CERTAIN the plug was tight,...I'm thinking he messed up and forgot/didn't tighten it properly.
Now she feels unsafe,there

Sure it is possible. It is also possible that the spaghetti aliens did when they were passing over head in their flying saucer too.
Ask her for a copy of the police report so you can give that to your insurance agent. Do I think there might be a report, at best it would be suspicious activity. I believe the insurance company is going to ask to have the person prove it wasn't their own negligence. It coming from the insurance company makes them the bad guy.
In the mean time, make sure you have a policy that no auto maintenance gets done at your homes. That way if someone does get seen doing this, it is illegal. --24.101.xxx.xxx |

mike n, the answer to your question depends.
In general, yes, there should have been an oil light, service engine soon light, warning bell or buzzer, and/or a low pressure on an oil gauge. However, this is dependent upon the age, make, model, and/or any customization of the vehicle, as well as if it has been properly maintained and all or any of these things were working properly. It is also dependent as to whether the driver pays any attention to these things. But again, in general, yes.

If it was "vandalized" at your property, I would expect there to be a large puddle of oil where he was parked.
How far into that 100 miles was he? If the engine had no oil, he wouldn't have gotten very far.
Strange one. --68.229.xxx.xxx |

Seriously who the heck is going to crawl under someone's car and loosen their oil plug. It's a heck of a lot easier to slash their tires.

And why do you care? It's not your problem. if the tenant feels "unsafe" they can move or let them install a ring camera in place of their doorbell. --65.188.xxx.xxx |

I believe they are saying that it was loosened,..again, I have a feeling that her husband that she calls a mechanic because he rebuilds alternators and starters and changes his own oil,..might not have tighten it, --73.126.xx.xxx |

As I said I'm not directly involved with them but I'm curious how as a "mechanic" he didn't respond to an engine light or an obvious heating engine.
As far as her moving, she has said a number of times how she loves her unit and she gets a pretty god discount in her rent as she does a lot there, in winter shovels the walk,.she plants flowers, trimming bushes, shows apts, notice when the boiler need a bit of water, checks the sump pump , sweeps the internal stairs etc.reports of problems,.she says she like doing it and its my furthest away property and grateful of her help. --73.126.xx.xxx |

Bonanza,
I think you are under estimating the power of stupid. We need to understand that part of the landlords job is to track the location of Bigfoot and all other threats that could ever happen - at least in the eyes of this looney tune.
Bigfoot would only have to lift up the car with one hand and unscrew the bolt with his set of channel locks with his other while eating some Jack Links beef jerky too. --24.101.xxx.xxx |

Yes and I'm aware of the cutesy comments on the whole situation that isn't realty valid and isn't directed to me but to the whole situation..yes some of his comments are good, and useful, but its clear he misunderstand some things about this. I've been a landlord for over 30 years and currently have 71 tenants and have had relatively few problems. as I originally said I am not really getting directly involved in this but curious about how this could happen.
The only thing I will be involved with is that she is saying she is ordering a solar power security cam.She is not asking for any reimbursement for it, I plan on doing that with a paper that she will have to sign that says we are not responsible for its function or maintenance.
If the cam makes her feel a bit better fine,..cheap fix

My home computer isn't working so I use the office one rt now,. it has auto sign, and I didn't think to check it,so that's how mats name showed, there are 5 of us that use it.I don't use it often. My own is being replaced.
This is not much stress.if you have been a LL for a while you know at times some real stress, but as I said before I have been generally luckily to have had few bad ones over these years.
